Tinubu's certificate saga and Atiku's historic battles against Nigeria's anti-democratic forces By Paschal Oluchukwu That Alhaji Atiku Abubakar- the People's Democratic Party, PDP candidate in the 2023 Presidential election took his battle to get to the root of ascertaining the authenticity or otherwise of the academic credentials submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC by the APC candidate and now President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu in far away United States of America and with his personal, hard-earned resources indeed proves his stoic mettle as a determined democrat whose credentials speak further volumes. It would be recalled that after several months and weeks of dilly-dallying, the Chigaco State University, where Tinubu claimed to have issued him a Diploma in Business and istration which he presented was compelled by a Judge, Nancy Maldonado through an order to release Tinubu's academic records in it's possession to Atiku within just 48 hours. According to her, “In the reasons stated in this Memorandum Opinion and Order, the Court overrules President Tinubu’s objections and adopts Judge Gilbert’s recommended decision in full,” the court said. It said, “The Court therefore grants Mr. Abubakar’s application under 28 U.S.C 1782. CSU is directed to respond to Mr. Abubakar’s subpoena in the time and manner provided for below..." Consequently, it was a huge relief for many right-thinking Nigerians when the CSU Registrar, Caleb Westberg appeared under oath and indeed responded to questions from Atiku's lawyers on the authenticity or otherwise of the certificate Tinubu submitted to Nigeria's electoral body as having been issued by the said institution he claimed to have graduated in 1979. Although the institution's Registrar performed in a rather trickish and shoddy manner in it's response to enquiries under dock especially knowing that the fate of over 200 Million Nigerians home and abroad lied on his simple honesty to enable them unravel their number one citizen who's entire records have been shrouded in so much secrecy and mystery, and also for the sake of the pendency of the 2023 election litigation before the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the take home was yet the fact that the Registrar, under oath denied the claim that the institution issued Tinubu with the certificate it presented to INEC. Now armed with such credible exhibits as evidences, Atiku returned to file them before the apex Court, not out of desperation for power but to help Nigerians unravel the over three decades mystery behind Tinubu's certificate. Even though the ball is now in the court of the apex Court in the land to determine, rational thinking and democracy-loving Nigerians must respect and commend Atiku Abubakar for standing tall in this epic battle and more particularly for being an outstanding collective conscience of Nigeria's fledgling democracy. Like he noted during his recent Press Conference that, "I am a democrat by conviction and a citizen of a country that I love. The issues at stake in this case require us once more to re-dedicate ourselves to both the country and our constitution...", Atiku has indeed proven himself a true democrat who believes firmly in justice, honesty, integrity and the rule of law. This was further demonstrated by his disposition as clearly stated during the said Press Conference; "Now, we entrust these facts to us all as citizens and as leaders of the institutions charged with interpreting our constitution." Indeed he proved that it is not about him but all as a people, our democracy and the rule of law as further enunciated in the text of his briefing; "Political leadership and active citizenship matter because they are ways through which we all work together to build a country that works for all who live in it. Our country is bigger than any of us, and its standing in the world affects the fate of all who come from or live in it. As leaders, it is our duty to advance the well-being of all our people and of the country." Whatever eventually happens at the apex Court of our land even as Atiku clearly stated that he would abide by their decision on the matter, the fact remains that the Waziri of Adamawa as he is popularly hailed by his numerous irers has once again stepped into the arena to rescue, redeem and or deepen our democracy which ordinarily should be founded on justice and the rule of law. Like he did to Obasanjo's vaulting third term ambition, Atiku has again demonstrated that democracy is about the overall interests of the entire populace and what is right, just and honest and not about any single individual masquerading as a leader. ATIKU ABUBAKAR AND HIS MANY ANTI-DEMOCRACY BATTLES Since 1988 when the Late Musa Yar' Adua convinced Atiku to politics, not many may be aware of the numerous political battles he has fought and won and the political rivers the former Customs Officer has equally crossed. Atiku was an integral part of the Late Shehu Yar'Adua's political movement which eventually transmuted into the People's Front of Nigeria, (PF) which had "the pursuit of justice, peace and service" as it's motto and "People First" as it's slogan. It bothers reminiscing that Atiku as a big spender in politics does not believe in keeping money idle. It has to be used to make money or to advance a good cause. This clearly brings to mind his recent personal and selfless undertaking to get to the root of probing Tinubu's academic qualifications in far away Chicago. No doubt therefore that Atiku had influence within the then new Party and his personal qualities of good human relationship attracted many to him and he thus became a rallying point within the Party. Even when he alongside the other of the Yar'Adua group, Atiku decided to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, he continued and sustained his utmost goodwill. It is on record that he not only brought SDP to his then Gongola State but personally funded and sustained the Party. From his quest to be Governor of Adamawa State and his actual emergence upon the return of democracy in 1999 as the Vice President of Nigeria in 1999, Atiku has remained consistently consistent with his principles and values as a true democrat. These reasons made him stick his neck tall to fight the attempt by his boss, then President Olusegun Obasanjo to alter the constitution and contest for the highest office in the land for the third term. During a strategic engagement meeting with the National Assembly in Abuja in his campaign for the 2023 Presidential election,Atiku had revealed that it was his intimate relationship with the National Assembly in 2003-2007 that gave him success in truncating the third term ambition of Obasanjo. “During my tenure as vice-president, I developed a very intimate relationship with of the National Assembly and it was that relationship that enabled us to stop the third-term or the life Presidency attempt by President Obasanjo", he disclosed. ALL EYES NOW ON THE APEX COURT IN THE LAND With the welter of public discussions now trailing the Tinubu certificate saga both locally and globally, this must be a very defining moment in our nation's history. The facts as they say in Law simply speak for itself (Res ipsa loquitur). Will the apex Court rely on the facts of the law or on technicalities as has traditionally become the morning order of the day in most of our Nigerian Courts? There's no gainsaying the fact that the multiple exhibits tendered before the Supreme Court by Atiku are so instrumental to the determination of the issues formulated by parties at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal that failure to it and use them in their decisions could spell doom and make a further mockery of the Nigerian justice system. Whereas, all the answers to the posers and fears are in the womb of time, it is significant that I draw the attention of their Lordships at the apex Court to the wise words of Aquinas, otherwise referred to as the corruption of law as quoted in Raymond Wack's Philosophy of Law, " A government that abuses it's authority by enacting laws which are unjust (unreasonable or against the common good) forfeits it's right to be obeyed because it lacks moral authority. His older contemporary, Hugo de Groot, popularly called Hugo de Groot (1583-1645) in his influential work, De Jure Belli ac Pacis, insists that, "even if God did not exist, natural law would have the same content. This meant presumably in Grotius's wisdom that certain things were 'intrinsically wrong'- whether or not God decrees them; for, to use Grotius's own analogy, even God cannot cause two times two not to equal four!". In conclusion therefore, it would be a very patriotic duty, just like Atiku had done in his pursuit of facts and truth in the very contentious issue of Tinubu's certificate saga to allow truth, justice and honest to prevail. For that is only what is capable of birthing a new Nigeria and a democracy anchored on strong institutions with distinct separation of powers in which the citizens can indeed bank on the judiciary as the last hope of the common man!

"Further litigations not in Ebonyi's interests"--Akpu Enika counsels Nwifuru's election opponents The Immediate Past Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports in Ebonyi state, Charlse Akpu Enika has urged Governor Francis Nwifuru's opponents during the last gubernatorial elections to shun further litigations in the state's interest. Akpu Enika said that the affirmation of Nwifuru's mandate by the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Thursday, September 27, 2023, shows that the people spoke their minds through the ballot on March 18, 2023. The former commissioner said that the victory at the tribunal was joyous and auspicious as it affirmed the massiveness of the mandate given the Governor by Ebonyi people. "As the governor pointed out during his speech to the people after the judgement was delivered, his opponents knew that he won the election and they lost. "The judges saw that there was nothing to preside over as the massiveness of the result was overwhelming. "He has further added icing on the cake by extending a hand of fellowship to his opponents, urging them to bring the noble ideas in their manifestoes to move the state forward,". Akpu Enika then urged the concerned candidates to accept this invitation in the interest of the state. "This was a contest between brothers and the people have declared where their minds are. "Further litigations will amount to waste of ideas and funds that could had been channeled to the state's interest. "The governor has declared that the peace of the state was paramount and should be protected at all costs "He also declared that the collaboration of his opponents would bring the desired forgiveness and reconciliation which would aid the state's growth and development,'. The former commissioner heartily congratulated the governor on the victory, noting that it was a platform for the sustainance of equity in power distribution in the state. "Your impeccable record as the Speaker of the most peaceful House of Assembly in Nigeria, the Ebonyi state House of Assembly for eight years left no voter in doubt of your sterling qualities. "So far, with barely five months on the covered throne, you have proven that the voters made no mistake, infact, they made the right choice. "With the people at your back, we can only pray that God will give you the strength and wisdom to continue steering the ship of Ebonyi graciously,". He also congratulated the state Deputy Governor, Mrs Patricia Obila, state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha and all government officials on the momentous victory.

The Immediate Past Ebonyi state Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Charles Akpu Enika says that as Ebonyi people are celebrating the victory of Governor Francis Nwifuru at the Election Petition Tribunal, Kudos should be given to Chief David Umahi for his unwavering stand on equity. Akpu Enika said this in his reaction to Nwifuru's victory at the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja which dismissed the petitions of candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Dr Ifeanyi Odii and Prof. Bernard Odoh respectively. The former commissioner popularly called 'Game Changer' said that the state was currently in a frenzy over the judgement as the judges affirmed the will of the people on March 18, 2023. "Beyond this victory is the phenomenon and catalyst to this enriching success. "The Protagonist Ezeulu in Chinua Achebe's classical, "Arrow of God", described his "golden" son Obika as 'a scarce wonder whose type like the Eagle, is seen in generations" "Chief, Engr David Nweze Umahi is an Eagle who is not seen often, infact seen in generations and we all are testaments to the role he played in this blaze of glory,". He described Umahi as the man with the enviable feat of being an Acting State Party Chairman, Substantive Chairman, Deputy Governor, Governor, Senator, (Deputy Majority Leader) and Minister. "This enigma battled with a 'sitting' governor with all executive paraphernalia and emerged governor, thereby assuming the position of father of equity when he assumed power. "He thus ensured that power rotated to the southern senatorial zone of the state for the first time after the northern and central zones had their shares. "He is a man of promise and a promise keeper who declared that he will even put his life to ensure that power returns to the northern zone after his 8-years reign. "He was specific in Izzi clan, which massively ed him against its own son when he sought the office," Akpu Enika further described Umahi as the man who saw tomorrow, forseeing that the PDP in the state and country would not observe equity in power transition and led the state to the All Progressives Congress (APC). "Today we are happy over that decision and Ebonyi is the major beneficiary. "He fought tooth and nail, deployed manpower and resources even to the risk of his life and well-being, to ensure that his 'son' Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru succeeds him. "Then on March 18, 2023, words became flesh, promises became action and the elegant chip of the old block is sitting tight on the throne. The election petitions tribunal has affixed a seal on this,".

EBONYI An All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain, Chief Chaka Nweze, has said that the Minister of Works, Chief David Umahi has shown readiness to change the narrative of Nigeria's federal roads in the country. Nweze made the assertion in an interview on his experience while accompanying Umahi to tour federal roads across the south east geopolitical zone of the country. The Pioneer Secretary of the APC in Ebonyi, said that Umahi has proven during the tour that he was ready to work. "His style is not just talking but to work the talk, and that is why he actually wants to ascertain the true conditions of our federal roads especially those that have been awarded and monies paid out by the federal government, whether abandoned or ongoing. "There were roads he inspected and trekked for more than a distance of 500 meters which I as a member of the tour, could not even cope due to their terrible state of disrepair. "The indigenes of areas we visited were elated, confessing to see a top government official, in the capacity of a minister of works, for the first time, inspecting the roads,'. The former Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area (LGA).of Ebonyi said that the minister constructively engaged the contractors, to ensure that overall objectives were achieved. "He commended those who did well and expressed dissapointment in those who did not meet the standard given them. "Umahi chided one of the contractors of Igbo origin for not commencing work at a road given to him thereby failing to protect his people's interest," he said. Nweze noted that several discoveries were made during the tour but the most significant was a contractor who had received N400milion from the federal government but had not commenced work for more than a year. "This particular contractor has been requesting for more funds and if the minister did not visit the site, he might get the funds. "The minister does not want to depend on reports from paper works as he also engagged the expatriate contractors professionally. "He made suggestions on alternative construction methods in line with the peculiarity of our soil and had summoned some of the contractors to the ministry's headquarters for contract re-design,". The APC chieftain commended President Bola Tinubu for 'fixing a perfect peg in a perfect hole," as Umahi will bring his engineering ingenuity to bear on federal roads. "His message on the usage of rigid pavement for roads in the country is unique due to the nature of the nation's soil. It is durable and it will save cost. "He has declared that he will be saving up to 50 percent of the total cost to fix all federal roads in the country if the funds are available to be deployed. "We believe he can do this as evidenced by his wondrous infrastructural works in Ebonyi with less cost,"

By the Editor. The ongoing Ebonyi governor's cup competition has lived up to its billing, attaining the standard set for it and meeting the expectations upon which it was conceived. The competition was approved by the youthful, ebullient and pragmatic State Governor, Rt.Hon Francis Nwifuru as part of his desire to return sports to its bridled place in the state's scheme. The governor realises the importance of sports in enhancing the well-being of youths and providing the avenue for them to achieve their life ambitions with their God-given talents. The competition which commenced on July 29, has produced several exhilarating soccer artistries, breath-taking goals and evidence that untapped soccer talents abound in Ebonyi. However, the most noticable development which gladdens the heart is the sheer fervour and enthusiasm displayed by Chairmen of the 13 Local Government Areas of the state, participating in the competition. During the opening ceremonies, many thought that it would be business as usual of apathy towards sporting events in the state, but it turned out to be a spectacle of excitement as mobilisation was top notch. The two chairmen of Ezza North LGA and Edda LGA who were the defending champions, led the arsenal of ers to the Pa Ngele Oruta stadium Abakaliki, venue of the competition. Chief Moses Ogodo-Ali Nome and Hon. Chima Ekumankama were present at the stadium and showed unbridled ion more than the players themselves. Both chairmen even shouted instructions to the players in fists of ion and had the 'immortal' pep talks on the players, at the break. After the goalless affair, Ogodo Ali danced like a man who won lottery, to the melodious tunes of the council's band. Hear him. "We are happy to hold the defending champions to a standstill. This shows that the cup is coming to Ezza North," But his words on the competition sumarised the excitement among the chairmen: "We are happy that real soccer has returned to the state. This is the first time in a long while that people of the state will gather at our stadium to celebrate football, to be bound together and renew our bonds as brothers through sports," Chima Ekumankama was no less enthusiastic. He rallied round his wards and offered encougement, though he rued the officiating which "denied my team, victory,". "We are still the defending champions and have become the envy and target of others. Officiating or not, our opponents knew that they played with lions,". ing Ogodo-Ali's assertion, he said, "The governor had done well in making the LGAs come together in a happy affinity. "This competition will achieve its aim of discovering young talents that would be groomed to make the state proud regionally, nationally and internationally," Hon. Emmanuel Ajah, the Chairman of Ivo LGA stationed free buses to take ers to Abakaliki to watch the match between the council and Onicha LGA. The move worked. The massive helped in beating Onicha 2-0. His presence buoyed his players and he offered them gifts at the end of the match especially his impressive goalkeeper. "We are happy with this result and as we strive to win the cup, we assure the state that Ivo is the nest of talents which the state can tap anytime," Even the female folk were not left out. Mrs Euphemia Nwali, Chairman of Ezza South LGA like a kind hearted mother, ed her 'children when they engaged Ohaoazara LGA. She petted her wards even after losing 0-1 and encouraged them to do better in subsequent fixtures. In her words, "You will definitely be rewarded on making our dear LGA proud,". The real spectacle of ion was shown when Afikpo confronted Izzi LGA. The match was so fierce on the pitch and extended to the bench. The two chairman nearly let tempers off The match ended 1-2 in favour of the governor's home LGA Izzi. Hon. Uche Nnajiofor Ibiam, the Chairman of Afikpo North LGA, fumed all through on the bench. The referee was again, the problem. "This is not what we expected. A match that was meant to be enjoyed and the referee has messed it up. It is shame,". At the end of the match, he went to see his players. But the gyrating studs of triumphant Izzi bellowed not far off. The Izzi LGA chairman, Hon. Stephen Nwankpa made towards where Nnajiofor adressed his players. He saw him, coming and 'got ready'. But his fellow chairman ad friend, Nwankpa sought an embrace, he obliged and both embraced to roaring cheers. Nnajiofor quickly disengaged from him, "You know you didn't win this match. You saw what happened,". But his rejoicing colleague answered': "Bros, this is football. Congratulate the better side," As we expect more ionate fervour in this high-class competition, a call on the organisers to look at the officiating.

Salt family Foundation Berates AIESCID As Governor Nwifuru Makes Key Appointment A group, Salt Family Foundation Worldwide, also known as the Ebonyi Body, has berated the Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID) for their lack of patience towards the current istration. The foundation equally commended the State Governor, R t Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru over his appointment of Commissioners as well as other key officers of the government. It would be recalled that a few days after the swearing-in of Governor Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, the President of the AIESCID, Mr. Pascal Oluchukwu in a statement, called on Governor Nwifuru's resignation over the non appointment of key officers of government and Commissioners. Interacting with journalists in Abakaliki the State capital, the group, however, pointed Oluchukwu as being hasty and ill-thought for alleging that the former Governor, David Umahi was still in charge of the government and that he controls the current Governor. "This clearly shows desperation and a lack of confidence in the capacity of Rt. Hon Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru to pilot the affairs of the State. "Salt Family Foundation Worldwide rose to the occasion, took a stand with Ebonyians, and vehemently replied to the statement made by Mr. Oluchukwu of AIESCID". It stated. The foundation also faulted Oluchukwu's knowledge of the legislative functions as the inauguration of the 7th State House of Assembly was yet to be done, hence, it amounted to a lack of patience for him to start criticizing Nwifuru's government. Chief Elvis Ekenechukwu Anasi, who is the Chief of the Hall of Supreme Leaders of Salt Family Foundation Worldwide opined, "As opposed to the write-up by AIESCID led by Mr. Pascal Oluchukwu, which made them appear cheap and desperately seeking for recognition. "They were quick to hurriedly criticize the governor without knowing that behind the scenes, His Excellency, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru was working tirelessly to produce a list of appointees that would stand the test of time and deliver good governance to the good people of Ebonyi. "When the list of his political appointees such as the SAs, SSAs, SSG, and Commissioners was eventually made public, it dawned on everyone that His Excellency, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru has succeeded in putting round pegs in round holes". He said. While commending the array of technocrats, professionals, and youths appointed by the Governor into his istration, the Supreme Leader of the Salt Family Foundation Worldwide maintained that Governor Nwifuru has shown vividly that he would run an all-inclusive government to make a positive impact on the people, particularly those in the hinterland. "Looking at the age of people appointed by Governor Nwifuru you will find out that truly, His Excellency has lent credence to his promise of running the reconciliatory government with an open door policy to cascade the fruits of good governance to all Ebonyians. "He is putting his actions where his words are, looking at the list of people in his Exco you will see that they are mostly youths who are vibrant and willing to hit the ground running". He commended the ongoing verification of local government staff as ordered by the Governor, noting that it would further identify with the real government workers and stop fraudulent activities in the civil service, especially at the LGA level. "We know that once the government succeeds in identifying the real workers in the local government, their benefits will be time to put smiles on the faces of the workers. "We believe that local government staff will begin to receive their salaries on time, he wants to empower the grassroots and restore the confidence of people in government "It is obvious even to the blind that Ebonyi now has a governor with a good head on his shoulder, empathy in his heart, and good governance in his mind. "A governor who seeks to reconcile all Ebonyians, restore confidence in governance in those that are led, and place Ebonyi in an enviable position in Nigeria," he explained. The Salt Family Foundation Worldwide expressed confidence in the State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru to deliver the dividends of democracy and called on Ebonyians to him succeed.

Edward Nnachi An Ebonyi Coalition group operating under the auspices of Odimma Ebonyi, Oganihu Ebonyi Movement, Ebonyi Peoples’ Vanguard, Eastern Renaissance Movement and Worried Nigerian Citizens, has urged the various tribunals handling the Governorship, National and State Assembly Election Petitions in Ebonyi State, to uphold the rule of law. According to the coalition, unless the Election Petitions Tribunal kept to the facts and law without any recourse to technicalities, they would be setting wrong precedents that justice is up for the highest bidders in the eyes of the people. The Coalition lamented that recent happenings in the tribunal did not inspire confidence and hope. Its spokespersons, Engineer Osita Ugoji and Mazi Moses Idika, said this in a statement on Tuesday night, urging Nigerians to pay closer attention to the issues being pleaded in the Ebonyi State Governorship and National Assembly election petitions. They further opined that when the Tribunals were moved to Abuja, the general impression was that the justices wanted a neutral ground to ensure easy access for petitioners and respondents. According to the statement, “However, we are worried by recent decisions taken by the tribunal, which leaves the impression that the movement to Abuja was to dispose the tribunals sitting for under-hand transactions and easy reach by those who are determined to perpetuate state capture. “We are therefore calling on Nigerians to pay close attention to issues being canvassed by petitioners at the various election petition tribunals, especially the Ebonyi State Gubernatorial Election and National Assembly Election Petitions. “It is on record that the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election who has been sworn into office, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru, swore to an affidavit averring his hip of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Federal High Court. “The APGA and PDP Governorship candidates in the March 18 election, Prof. Benard Ifeanyi Odoh and Chief Ifeanyi Chuks Odii respectively, are challenging the election of Nwifuru on the grounds that the APC candidate was not properly validly nominated by APC being a member of PDP during the nomination process. “Also, the petitioner claims that the BVAS was not used to accredit voters in three local councils of Izzi, Abakaliki an Ebonyi. We do not know how the learned Justices would handle the matter, but our concern is that the rule of law should be upheld to avoid a miscarriage of justice. As the saying goes, parties to every suit in court know the facts and the truth, it is the judge that is on trial." The Coalition expressed displeasure over the inexplicable dismissal of the petition filed by the Labour Party candidate for the Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, Dr. Eze Emmanuel Eze, by the Tribunal, last Friday. It also decried alleged reports that the Tribunal’s secretary was programmed to backdate the All Progressives Congress Senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South, Engr David Umahi’s response to Senator Michael Amah Nnachi’s petition, which was allegedly filed outside of time. The Coalition observed that the hasty dismissal of the LP candidate’s petition suggested a pre-arranged verdict to rubbish a credible petition against the electoral heist in Ebonyi as well as a tactical move to demoralise the petitioners.

AIESCID also alleged that former Governor David Umahi is controlling the current Governor, saying that Umahi was spotted while inspecting ongoing projects in the State after his handing over to a new government. Reacting to the press statement, the chief supreme leader of the Salt Family Foundation, Mr Anasi Alvis described it as pathetic that a group whose interest is to protect the people is misleading them. "It is pathetic to however say that a group that presents itself as a nonpolitical organization working for the interest of Ebonyians in the diaspora is dabbling into the shady politics of disorganizing a new government that has come to give a breeze of fresh air to the good people of Ebonyi". he said. Alvis further noted that the appointment of special assistants by the governor on security is a welcome development as the people of the State have bestowed their trust in Governor Nwifuru to deliver his mandate and would not be stampede into appointing Commissioners against the law. "As a lawmaker, the Governor fully understands the principle of separation of power as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution and will at the fullness of time and in full constitution of the legislative arm of government, send names of his Commissioner nominees and other appointees to the House of Assembly for screening and possible confirmation "Therefore, Mr. Pascal Oluchukwu and his association of rabble-ros and interlopers should desist from creating unnecessary tension in the State by dishing out malicious information against a government that is duly in charge of its affairs and is prepared to deliver good governance to the Ebonyi people". Numerous cases of bullying have characterized the Nigerian secondary school system, over the years, students, particularly those in boarding schools have been victimized by thier seniors and even tutors. It is however a concern, when a parent who enrolled his or her child in a school becomes subjected to assault and humiliation by a school management while in the course to watch after thier wards. Reverend sister Esther Uchenna Nwobi, who doubles as the Principal of St Theresa Secondary School, okpaugwu in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State has allegedly ordered her male staffs to flog one Mrs Chukwudelu Chisom who came to enquire about her daughter's expulsion by the school management. Inside life would authoritatively report from the Eye witness point of view, that trouble started when Mrs Chisom received the shocking news of her daughter's I'll treatment by Rev Sister Esther. According to the daughter of the victim, Chimaobi Jennifer, who was arbitrarily expelled from the school, narrated that her odeal started when a junior student, Dike Chioma (SS1) Allegedly inserted a piece of paper in a student's mouth and she went to correct the situation. "On that day, we got a report that someone is sleeping in the class and his classmate insert a piece of paper in his mouth. "We called her (Ibe Odinaka) and she refused coming, I went to her and she refused, I asked her to follow me to my class and told her to kneel down but she refused, I then flogged her to make her obey but she started fighting me that my class mates had to help me. "She went and reported me to my maths teacher who laid me on the table and flogged me, he gave her 500 naira to buy ken for him to flog me "He gave me seventeen strokes and flogged other students who refused to hold me. We got to the principals office and she gave us twelve strokes of ken and labor. "She asked us to apologize to the girl which we did, my mother saw the beaten on me and she was not happy, she called the principal to explain but she stops her calls. "I went to school the next day and the principal called me into her office and said she has expelled me for bringing my mother to fight for me in school. "When I told my mother that I was expelled, she said we should go to the school and see the principal, when my mother started asking, two male teachers, came and started shouting at her, and they flogged my mother." she narrated. Chisom was a game perfect, and according to an insider, the school regulations permit functionaries to discipline a disobedient student. Mrs Chisom, has called on the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school as well as the security agencies to intervene into the expulsion of her daughter and seek justice for the assault meted out on her. "I want them to apologize to my daughter for the injustice they did to her because she is a woman, and they treated her like a criminal for discharging her job as a school prefect, and for also flogging her mother in the presence of the whole school". she said. When ed on the phone, Reverend sister Esther Uchenna Nwobi could not avail herself for further verification as she maintained that she has to conclude with the Bishop, before an official statement on the matter. Polycarp Sola-Abakaliki The lawmaker representing Abakaliki south state constituency, Mr Joseph Ununu has reportedly engaged in a fight with the management of the Abakaliki rice mill over his alleged involvement in rice fraud at the company. Ununu, a 2 term former chairman of the rice mill company, in the early hours of the day hard resisted a team of taskforce during a routine check on the activities of individuals who are selling rice with bad scale. The lawmaker allegedly threatened to remove the incumbent chairman who was duly elected, when he eventually becomes a deputy speaker of the State House of Assembly. Trouble started when Mrs Nnena Ununu), one of the wives of the lawmaker was discovered to have imposed illegal levies on women's wing as their leader and encouraged them to use the bad scale for customers. She boasted that the rice mill chairman would do nothing to stop her because of the protection of her husband, and when the team of taskforce arrived at her shop, she called the lawmaker who came with a team of thugs and dispersed them. According to an Eye witness (Name withheld) "On the 13th of March, it was discovered that Mrs Nnena Ununu, the wife of the Honorable member representing Abakaliki south, who happens to be the head of the market women imposed an unauthorized levy on them. "She asked them to pay the money forcefully to amend their scale, by making sure that anybody who is coming to buy rice in Line C buys 17 kg instead of the 25 kg standard measurement. "When it got to the attention of the rice mill chairman, he swung into action and dissolved the executives of the union and told her not to pilot the affairs, he then appointed a 7-man committee to confiscate those adjusted scales." She said. Mr Linus Obeji, the chairman of the rice mill company who confirmed the incident described it as unfortunate, that a former chairman of the company who is now a lawmaker would abandon his legislative function to encourage his wife who allegedly sponsored the bad practice and create bad image for the State. "We summoned all the market women and told them that such evil cannot prevail in Abakaliki rice mill, that we are determined to make things right. "Nobody whatever, no matter how highly placed you are can do such evil against the people of the rice mill, against our customers, and the government of Ebonyi State who stands against corruption. "Today, the committee went to confiscate those adjusted scales and were attacked by Chidinma Ununu, (daughter of the lawmaker) who took the phone of the pressmen that came to Cover the event. "The wife immediately called her husband who came with his boys and chased them out, bragging that he would use his gun and kill anyone that comes to his shop.
