Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has openly acknowledged that the infrastructure development template used by former Governor and current Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, in Aba during his tenure is guiding his own ongoing efforts to rebuild the commercial city, ABN TV reports.

Governor Otti made this revelation during Senator Kalu’s courtesy visit to his country home in Nvosi, Isialangwa South, on Sunday, June 8, 2025.

Speaking warmly of the former Governor’s achievements, Otti said:
"I am still using former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu’s infrastructure template for Aba. He did well in Aba when he was Governor. That template is not wrong — you fix the place that generates the revenue, and the revenue will come and be used to develop other areas.”

Governor Otti emphasized that his istration believes in building on the foundation of past leaders who left positive legacies, rather than discarding effective strategies out of political differences.

"Government and governance is a continuum. It can be broken, but a wise government must go back and recover what worked. There is no need to dwell on the past or fight anyone. We are focused on resetting and moving forward," he added.

The Governor praised the foresight of Senator Kalu, recalling how his late mother was an ardent irer of the former Governor’s road construction projects in Aba.

"My late mother used to say good things about what Senator Orji Kalu did in Aba. I have always believed that the approach he used was correct — start by fixing the revenue-generating centre of the state and spread development from there," Otti explained.

Governor Otti’s istration has been widely lauded for its aggressive road reconstruction and urban renewal in Aba, which is revitalizing the city’s economy and restoring investor confidence.

The Governor also revealed that his infrastructure work in Aba is already yielding tangible results. He cited the recent N200 million private donation from a grateful Aba businessman to the government’s efforts in transforming the city’s road network.

"People in Aba can now do business day and night. There is no sleep in Aba anymore. Money is changing hands, and the city’s economy is growing faster. That is how it should be," Otti noted.

In his response, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu commended Governor Otti for the remarkable progress his istration has achieved and expressed satisfaction that his developmental philosophy was being continued.

"You have done well for our State. I am very happy to see that the road from Igbere to Umuahia, which was abandoned for over 16 years, is now smooth and motorable because of your leadership," Senator Kalu said.

The leadership of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU) has strongly condemned the recent killing of a young man in Ebem Ohafia and distanced the community from the unfortunate act.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfAez_KD9mY
The incident, which occurred on June 5, 2025, at Awo Ndị Anaga, Ebem Ohafia in Ohafia LGA of Abia State, involved two suspects, Njoku Ugbu Uduma and Ogbuka Ugbu Uduma, and their nephew, the victim identified as Chikaodi Idika Awa.

In a press release signed by the union’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ifeanyi Okali made avaliable to ABN TV, the EODU explained that the suspects and the deceased were not indigenes of Ebem Ohafia but migrants who had settled in the community for business.

The statement noted that the suspects, originally from Ndị Anyorie Ohafia, had accused their nephew of repeated theft and mental instability. In response, they chained and beat him to death, later burying him in a shallow grave in an attempt to cover up the crime. However, the truth came to light when community youths led by their Chairman, Mr. Olua, arrived at the scene, causing the suspects to flee.

The EODU emphasized that Ebem Ohafia is a peace-loving and accommodating community, welcoming people from all backgrounds. However, it stressed that all residents are expected to obey the law and uphold the community’s values.

“Both the suspects and the victim are not citizens of Ebem Ohafia. They were migrants living among us. This tragic act does not reflect the character of our people,” the statement read.

The union assured the public that the case has been handed over to the Nigeria Police and that the community is cooperating fully to ensure that justice is served.

“We remain committed to peace, law, and order in Ebem Ohafia. No form of criminality will be tolerated in our land,” said Mr. Ifeanyi Okali, PRO of the EODU.

Hon. Obi Aguocha, the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency, has stated that he is not in competition with political opponents, emphasizing that his work speaks for itself.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLQqJVm_YGI
Speaking during a live interview on STANDPOINT, aired on Rapid FM and ABN TV, , the federal lawmaker dismissed political attacks as distractions, insisting that only the impact of representation should matter. “I am not in competition with anyone. I can only be judged by my impact compared to my predecessors. And so far, I believe I have exceeded expectations,” he said.

He took a swipe at critics questioning his style of representation, asking them to compare his achievements objectively. “Everyone has the right to aspire. But can they do better than what we have done? That’s the question.”

Aguocha also used the opportunity to highlight his focus on the inclusion of marginalized groups, particularly persons living with disabilities. “They have ability, not disability,” he said, pledging full access to empowerment and scholarship programs going forward.

Federal lawmaker, Hon. Obi Aguocha, the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency, has reiterated his firm stance on the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, stating that his advocacy is deeply personal and morally driven, not politically motivated.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLQqJVm_YGI

Speaking during a live interview on STANDPOINT, aired on Rapid FM and ABN TV, Aguocha disclosed that nearly 180 lawmakers have already co-signed a petition to President Bola Tinubu demanding Kanu's unconditional release.

He narrated his long-standing relationship with Kanu, saying, “We grew up in the same community and attended the same schools. This is not just political. It is personal, and it is a matter of justice.”

Aguocha hailed the recent court ruling which struck out coerced statements against Kanu as a landmark victory. “The court recognized that statements obtained under duress are invalid. That was a major win,” he said.

Addressing speculation that his stand was politically calculated ahead of 2027, Aguocha responded: “If helping my brother gain freedom is politics, so be it. Even if I don’t run again, I will feel fulfilled knowing I did my part.”

The lawmaker representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, has called for the resignation of the heads of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the t issions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), citing gross failures and loss of public confidence in Nigeria’s examination systems.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dTZgAdc7lw
Hon. Ogah, who is also a member of the House Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies, made the statement during a committee session at the National Assembly, where the WAEC Head, Dr. Amos Dangut, and JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, were grilled over alleged systemic lapses and controversies surrounding recent examination conduct.

“I said I must be here to speak for Nigerians. I must be here to defend our people,” Hon. Ogah declared during the heated session. “Sir, what has happened with your agency and also with JAMB, which we also oversee, deserves that the two of you resign.”

He described the examination scandals and irregularities as an embarrassment to the nation, questioning whether the actions of the agencies amounted to deliberate sabotage.

“You have exposed Nigeria to the level that people are laughing at us. At a point, I asked myself—is this sabotage against the government? I am not part of the APC government, but is this a sabotage? Or is it ethnic?” Ogah questioned.

The lawmaker lamented that the Southeast, where he hails from, has been disproportionately affected by the fallout of the examination controversies. “I come from the Southeast. A greater percentage of all these irregularities are happening there. What have we done to deserve this?” he asked.

He went further to criticize the WAEC and JAMB leaderships for what he termed a failure in ability and integrity, saying, “If we were in a developed society, both of you should have resigned.”

The committee session comes amid growing public outrage over issues surrounding examination malpractice, mismanagement, and the integrity of Nigeria’s educational assessment processes.

Both Dr. Dangut and Professor Oloyede were reportedly questioned extensively by lawmakers, who expressed deep concerns about the credibility of the examinations under their watch and the impact on millions of Nigerian students.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the Southeast region, declaring that the President has shown unprecedented goodwill to Ndigbo in less than two years in office.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Abia State Chapter of Renewed Hope Partners (RHP) in Bende on Sunday, Kalu said it was disingenuous for anyone to claim that President Tinubu does not care about the Southeast.

“Let nobody lie to you that Tinubu does not love us,” Kalu said. “He has given us the Chief of Naval Staff, the Minister of Works, the Deputy Speaker, and approved the South East Development Commission.”

As legal proceedings surrounding Mazi Nnamdi Kanu intensify, Hon. Obi Aguocha, the lawmaker representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia State, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to securing the IPOB leader’s release.

Aguocha, who was physically present at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday when Kanu appeared for trial, spoke ionately about his ongoing efforts to engage both political and diplomatic avenues in seeking a resolution to the case.

“There’s no going back,” the legislator declared. “I will continue to pursue all viable channels — political, legal, and diplomatic — to ensure that my brother and constituent, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, regains his freedom.”

The House Committee Chairman on Monitoring and Evaluation disclosed that he has held a series of high-level consultations, including meetings with former President Muhammadu Buhari, key figures in the National Assembly, and of President Bola Tinubu’s istration. Among those he engaged were the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the President’s Chief of Staff.

According to Hon. Aguocha, these engagements were aimed at brokering a political solution to what he described as a “sensitive and emotionally charged issue” that has deeply affected the South-East region and Nigeria at large.

“I have made it clear at every forum that the time has come for healing, dialogue, and national reconciliation. This is not just about Kanu, but about peace and justice in Nigeria,” he added.

The lawmaker’s remarks came shortly after Justice James Omotosho ruled in favour of Kanu in the trial-within-trial, dismissing evidence obtained under duress by prosecution witness number three.

Hon. Aguocha’s renewed push for Kanu’s release is likely to galvanize among Kanu’s sympathizers while putting additional pressure on the Federal Government to consider non-litigious pathways toward resolving the matter.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has said he will seek divine direction before deciding on a potential re-election bid in 2027.

The Governor made this known on Saturday during a grand civic reception and appreciation ceremony organized by the Oha Isiala Ngwa People of Isiala Ngwa North and South, held at the Sam Ihesiulor Stadium, Okpuala Ngwa.

Amidst rousing endorsements from stakeholders and a mammoth crowd of ers, Governor Otti emphasized that, just like in 2023, the decision for 2027 will ultimately be left in the hands of God.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Otti explained the istration’s focus on Aba, describing it as a deliberate economic strategy to bolster the State’s internally generated revenue (IGR) for broader development.

“Our concentration on Aba is because we know that Aba has the capacity to generate revenue to develop other parts of the State. It is our commercial hub—not just for Abia, but the entire South-East and South-South.”

He restated his government’s commitment to inclusive development across the state, announcing that the Mgboko–Ntigha road project will be completed by December 2025.

On the ongoing Abia Airport project located in Nsulu, the Governor clarified that its siting was based purely on technical merit and not politics. “We are not just building an airport; we are building an airport city. There will be hotels, plazas, markets, and even an Air Force base. It is a transformational project.”

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, on Wednesday viewed multiple video recordings of the 2015 interrogation of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, submitted by the Department of State Services (DSS) as evidence in the ongoing trial.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwUHZ3FajgI
The prosecution presented the videos in a bid to demonstrate that Kanu voluntarily gave his statements during his interrogation in DSS custody. However, the footage appeared to tell a different story. In several instances throughout the recordings, Kanu was heard insisting that he had been denied access to his legal counsel.

“This is the third time I am making statements without my lawyer. Record me and let the world know,” Kanu declared in one of the video clips played in open court.

Justice Omotosho, visibly attentive to the defendant’s repeated assertions in the footage, remarked, “I heard him mentioning repeatedly that his lawyer wasn’t there. I will look into that alongside the involuntariness.”

The defense team, led by senior advocate Paul Erokoro, argued that the videos presented by the DSS were heavily edited and did not capture the full context of Kanu’s detention and interrogation. According to the defense, critical portions—particularly those that may show coercion or threats—were omitted from the recordings.

“The absence of legal representation during these recorded sessions fundamentally undermines the prosecution’s claim of voluntariness,” one of the defense lawyers noted after the proceedings.

The court had earlier ordered a “trial within trial” to determine whether the statement made by Kanu in 2015 was obtained under duress, a decision sparked by allegations that DSS operatives threatened Kanu and denied him legal access at the time.

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have rescued a 13-year-old girl from suspected ritual killers in Umuojor village, Ishiagu community, Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state, ABN TV reports.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RF-jSLjMFD0
The rescue operation, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, May 27, 2025, was conducted by police officers assigned to the Umumba Division in collaboration with Neighbourhood Watch groups and local community .

Three suspects—Uche Kingsley Agumba (33), Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi (36), and Ejike Odinwankpa (38)—were arrested at the scene. However, the alleged mastermind of the crime, a native doctor identified as High Chief Levi Onyeka Obu, also known as “Ezeani” and “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show,” escaped and is currently on the run.

During the operation, police discovered two decomposing bodies—one male and one female—buried in a concrete-sealed pit inside an uncompleted building reportedly used as a shrine by the fleeing suspect. Investigations suggest the victims were murdered for ritual purposes, and the rescued girl was moments away from suffering the same fate.

Following the discovery, the Enugu State Government swiftly demolished the shrine and other buildings linked to the prime suspect, declaring zero tolerance for criminal enterprises of such nature.

Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, who visited the crime scene, commended the prompt action of the officers, local security personnel, and the community. He has ordered the Command’s Tactical and Intelligence Units to intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing native doctor and other accomplices.

“The Command will not rest until every individual involved in this evil act is brought to book,” Giwa assured.

Honourable Obi Aguocha, the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, once again made a powerful and symbolic appearance at the Federal High Court, Abuja, standing in solidarity with his constituent and brother, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, during the ongoing legal proceedings between Kanu and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwUHZ3FajgI
His presence at the court is being described by observers not as political posturing, but as a rare and courageous act of conscience-led leadership in a country where silence often seems safer than standing with the oppressed. Aguocha, dressed in a simple traditional outfit, walked into the courtroom and remained present throughout the trial session, drawing attention from both legal observers and ers of the detained IPOB leader.

For many, Aguocha’s unwavering presence in the courtroom is a direct challenge to systemic indifference. It is also an emotional connection to the many families who feel unheard, unseen, and unjustly treated. “This is not just about politics,” a court attendee remarked. “It is about brotherhood, justice, and refusing to be silent in the face of oppression.”

Speaking to journalists outside the courtroom, a member of the IPOB legal team noted: “In a time when many political leaders avoid the conversation about Nnamdi Kanu, Hon. Obi Aguocha is showing up where it matters. His presence alone is a message of hope to millions of Igbos worldwide.”

Social commentators have also weighed in, describing Aguocha’s act as “representation with emotion” and “leadership carved in conscience.” His actions have ignited conversations on the role of elected representatives in moments of national and ethnic tension.

To Kanu’s ers and many in the South East, Aguocha’s regular presence in court is seen as more than a duty—it’s a moral calling. “It will surely end in praise,” one er declared, echoing the belief that justice must eventually triumph and that men like Aguocha will be ed not just for their votes in parliament, but for the stands they took when it mattered most.

As the legal battle continues, Hon. Obi Aguocha remains one of the few public office holders consistently and boldly showing for Nnamdi Kanu—standing in the courtroom not just as a politician, but as a brother, a representative, and a voice of his people.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has defended the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that Nigeria’s current hardships are a result of long-overdue reforms that ended the culture of "cheap money."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WY2ibV_sxo
Speaking during an interaction with journalists at the National Assembly, the former Abia State Governor said that Tinubu’s bold decisions — including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the exchange rate — marked a turning point in Nigeria’s economic history.

“This is the first President who stopped the subsidy and the first who merged the dollar. That's why we are suffering. Nigerians are not used to working hard. We are used to getting cheap money,” Kalu stated.

Declaring his for the President’s policies, he added, “I'm not a sycophant. I'm speaking as someone who understands both politics and business. These reforms were necessary.”

Kalu acknowledged the pain many Nigerians are facing but maintained that the hardship is transitional and would yield long-term benefits. He argued that previous istrations failed to make the tough calls required to stabilize the economy.

The former Senate Chief Whip insisted that Tinubu’s istration is resetting the economy on a more sustainable path, even if the average citizen does not immediately feel the results.

“This government is saying: work hard, earn legitimately, and build a real economy. That’s the only way we can grow,” he concluded.

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, has declared that he is not desperate to become Nigeria’s President, but rather desperate to see the country work effectively for the benefit of its citizens, ABN TV reports.

Obi made this known on Saturday during a special Anniversary Sabbath service held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Umuahia, Abia State, to commemorate two years of Governor Alex Otti's istration.

The former Anambra State Governor emphasized the challenges of leading a country like Nigeria, especially for leaders committed to doing what is right. He called on the people of Abia to pray for Governor Otti and of his cabinet, stressing the importance of divine guidance in leadership.

“It is difficult to govern Nigeria or any of its states, especially when you are determined to do the right thing,” Obi stated. “When I say to people I am not desperate to be President, I am desperate to see Nigeria work.”

He urged Nigerians to consistently pray for their leaders, encouraging those in positions of authority to use public funds judiciously and for the collective good.

Obi commended Governor Otti for what he described as “two years with a difference,” noting that real change in governance does not necessarily require long tenures.

“People always say they need eight years, ten years, or even twenty years to make an impact. But I have always said that one day can make a difference. What is happening in Abia today, we want to see it happen everywhere in Nigeria,” he remarked.

In his response, Governor Alex Otti attributed the progress made by his istration in the past two years to divine guidance and strength from God. He expressed gratitude to Peter Obi for his consistent , and also appreciated the Abia State legislature, judiciary, and of the Church for their prayers and encouragement.

One of the pivotal moments in today’s court proceedings came when the defense team played a video clip showing Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State stating that the killings in Orlu were not carried out by IPOB but by of the opposition party.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cKqQFgVyCI
This sharply contradicted earlier testimony by the DSS witness, who had claimed IPOB was responsible.

When questioned, the witness acknowledged recognizing the governor but attempted to downplay the clip, stating that the governor “didn’t mention names.”

The defense argued that this evidence directly contradicts the allegations against Kanu and IPOB, and s the position that many of the accusations are politically motivated and lack factual basis.

Another clip featured a public figure asserting that the killings in the southeast were not caused by IPOB but driven by political interests—a claim the witness could not challenge.

Observers believe this series of revelations in court may significantly influence public perception of the trial and raise new doubts about the prosecution’s claims.

The trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), resumed today at the Federal High Court, Abuja, with dramatic courtroom developments that left both legal teams and observers on edge. The presiding judge, visibly dissatisfied with the Federal Government's slow pace in presenting witnesses, issued a stern ultimatum, threatening to close the prosecution’s case if delays persist.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5XnLU_ReJU

After cross-examining the second prosecution witness, who offered vague and contradictory answers—including repeated claims of “I don’t know”—the court discharged him. The prosecution, however, failed to present a prepared third witness, prompting the court to adjourn the case to May 28, 29, and subsequently June 6, 16, 18, and 19, 2025.

Highlighting the prolonged nature of the trial, the judge emphasized the need for accelerated hearings and gave the prosecution a clear directive: “Pick six days within two weeks and present all your witnesses. If you fail to do so, I will strike out your case as weak.”

In one of the most pointed moments of the day, the judge urged the prosecution to cut down their lengthy list of witnesses, warning, “We cannot continue like this. Reduce your witnesses so this matter can end soon.”

The courtroom also witnessed the playing of multiple video clips submitted by the defense. One such video featured Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who had earlier accused IPOB of killings in Orlu but was now seen suggesting the violence was politically motivated. Another showed prominent figures, including DSS Director Oluwatosin Ajayi and Gen. T.Y. Danjuma, calling on citizens to defend themselves—a statement the witness declined to interpret, stating it wasn’t his job.

The defense, led by former Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Kanu Agabi SAN, continued to challenge the credibility of the witness, questioning the lack of investigation reports, lack of direct evidence tying Kanu to any violence, and inconsistencies in the DSS’s claims. The witness itted that he never investigated IPOB individually, nor did he possess any conclusive evidence of criminal acts instigated by Kanu.

Further courtroom exchanges raised serious questions about the strength of the prosecution’s case, with the witness unable to identify individuals in the video clips or confirm details about IPOB's alleged actions. He also itted to not replying directly to the Attorney General of the Federation’s letter and failing to provide investigation documents.

The defense’s legal team featured a robust line-up, including Paul Erokoro SAN, Alloy Ejimakor, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, and others, while the Federal Government was represented by Awomolo SAN and his team.

As the courtroom drama intensifies and the trial drags into its tenth year, many Nigerians and international observers continue to question the handling of the case. The presiding judge’s comments today signal a turning point, as the court inches toward either a definitive judgment—or dismissal.

Governor Of Abia State, Dr.Alex Otti has stated that the previous istration under Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu spent more money on the Port Harcourt Road project without delivering results than his government did to successfully reconstruct and complete the road, ABN TV reports.

Speaking during a Thanksgiving event tagged ‘Promise Kept Carnival’ organized by the Aba community at Umuagbai Secondary School along Port Harcourt Road, Governor Otti emphasized the contrast between both istrations in of fiscal responsibility and performance.

“In 2017, they awarded this Port Harcourt Road project for N9.8 billion, and the entire amount was paid. But the road was not done,” Otti said. “Fast forward to 2025, the project cost N36.5 billion, and suddenly, they began making noise.”

He explained that a closer look at the figures based on prevailing exchange rates exposes the truth. “The average exchange rate in 2017 was N333 to a dollar, meaning that N9.8 billion was equivalent to USD29 million. In 2025, with an exchange rate of N1,600, N36.5 billion is D22.8 million.”

The Governor asked a rhetorical question to drive home his point: “USD29 million and USD22 million, which one is higher?” He concluded, “In 2017, USD29 million was spent and no road was done. In 2025, USD22 million was spent, and a standard road is delivered and ready for use.”

Governor Otti said his istration prefers to respond to critics with performance rather than words, stressing that the completed road stands as evidence of responsible governance and commitment to public infrastructure.
