The reported decline in the number of Nigerian youths ing the military has been attributed to the availability of Information Technology job opportunities, which have diverted the younger generation’s interest from military service.

On Wednesday, the Lagos State Government expressed concerns that youths in the state were not keen on ing the military.

Speaking at a quarterly meeting in Ikeja with the Chairman and of the Police Community Relations Committee, the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, stated, “In Lagos State, our children don’t like to the military. They don’t see any reason why they should be part of the army. If your state does not participate, you are short-changing your state.”

Salu-Hundeyin’s statement comes three months after the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, revealed that the South West has the lowest rate of enlistment in both the military and the Police Force.

Commenting on the matter, a security expert, Kabir Adamu said IT jobs have diverted the interest of Nigerian youths, adding that the harsh training and living conditions of military personnel were also discouraging factors.

Speaking with Saturday PUNCH on Thursday, Adamu noted that the military had not adopted an intergenerational system that would appeal to younger, tech-savvy individuals.

“There are jobs, especially in IT and digital technology, that are more attractive now. Additionally, the military still maintains a traditional, conservative disposition that does not embrace intergenerational dialogue to encourage entrance from young people who are tech-savvy and digitised.

That isn’t totally true and you know
With the risk involved most people feel that the incentives are way too low
Teaching jobs and military jobs are the most honorable jobs one can do in service to his country
Big respect to them
But look at the incentives attached to them

Reduce unnecessary hierarchical wickedness.

Enhance professionalism by infusing elite training methods and acquisition of modern equipment that utilize modern technologies.

Young people can't finish watching a semblance of mode of operation of modern army in movies and then Nigerian Army that is operating with basic or outdated poor equipment.

ing the military in Nigeria with the numerous activities of bandits and insurrections everywhere is tantamount to suicide and self annihilation.
Ask yourself why many young men are deserting the military. The moral is very low

Several factors are involved.

Soldiers are not well paid in Nigeria which is the number 1 reason .

People are attracted by benefits like riches ,honour ,status etc but Nigerian soldiers are not well respected or honoured beyond the uniform they wear in the society except when they have high ranks and have embezzle weapons money.

There's a lot of corruption in the recruitment exercise.

Lastly ,Nigeria army don't engage in media shows, they don't manufacture 21st century weapons to use to flex ,they don't honour their veterans well ,they don't engage in popular international wargames , peacekeeping or real battle that they win that will boost potential soldiers morale .

Nigerian army morale was recently boosted when they engaged in several successful operations against the Bandits .

At this age you should know TECH is the future.
Hustle with no muscle.

If the army can incorporate tech into most of it's activities, then the youth will in mass

You the military to fight the slave master (polithiefcians) wars all because to put food on your table.

Tueh!

P. S: Back then especially when I was a kid, I respect (not fear) the uniform officers especially the duo of the police officers and soldiers. Now, the story is not the same, I have no respect for them anymore. I don't even fear them, I only fear their treacherous tactics. Nigerian uniform officers are cursed. I said it with my full chest.

A senior personnel RAPED a female soldier and threw her in a psychiatric hospital.

When the soldier took the story to the Press and social media, they threw her in JAIL.

The Military conducted a SHADY investigation and exonerated the RAPIST and DISMISSED the victim.

Is that the same Military they want people to ?

I have been watching WW2 documentary thisdays and each time I watch it, it makes me realize we are not yet ready to progress militarily ... even the technology of 1945 we cannot produce , how much more 2024... instead we decieve ourselves fighting ragtag bandits, people that we should apply carpet bombing on their domain. Until half of the Military Budget is spent on innovations and developing our own unique weaponry we are still going to depend on the British to save us, unfortunately their population is ageing.

Y'all need to stop deceiving yourselves with these posts about low turn out for military jobs, it's actually a LIE! Every year, thousands of Nigerian youths apply for military jobs but they have a very limited quota, even for recruits, most (not all) enter through referral and connections.

When I was in my 20s, I knew how many military recruitment scratch cards I bought; this was even before I got my degree cos I wanted to as a tradesman with my diploma then. Back when GEJ was president, the military was using recruitment exercise as a money-making venture... fast forward to today, despite the poor remuneration and the fact that Boko Haram terrorists are walking free in the name of "rehabilitation", I am sure that hundreds of thousands of youths are still applying and not getting picked.

THEY ARE NOT RECRUITING ENOUGH, SIMPLE!!!!

You have ESN on the SE, kidnappers on the North, militants on the SS and head hunters with bandits on the SW. Then you expect a young person to go and die for the cause?

It's NOT true!

The real reason many are "discouraged" to the Military is "poor benefits and welfare package" with "meager pay" that amounts to NOTHING for a 35 years career job of sacrificing your life to an "ungrateful country" like Nigeria!
