If universities have to resort to this to “increase IGR”, are they really worth the title? Universities are incentivised to conduct research and innovation that can extend beyond geographies. The mediocrity is painful.

Stop patronising mediocrity. University in 21st century producing bread to generate funds is a big low. It's a university for crying out loud! They should go into inventories like Biogas waste management and collaborate with government if they truly want to generate funds. Producing ordinary bread that our dearest daughter Ahnie can produce inside her 2 by 2 kitchen is laughable.

It’s not entirely bad - if the facility employs staff and
Students studying food tech / bakery related courses. There might be an argument that it provides hands on experience for the students whilst helping to generate funds.

I think what’s unacceptable is monopolising the bread market in the School. That’s anti-competitive and the FCC may consider this illegal.

Lots of unis produce pure water, bottle water and the likes.


There's Unilag ventures, UI has something similar. Took one youghourt named Hebron youghourt sometimes back and it was produced in convenant.


So Lasu opening a bakery also to improve IGR shouldn't be an issue and theres nothing mediocre about it.

Unilag already had theirs far back 2005, but it is a good development...

Good, education in Nigeria is pseudo. Just get good sense and learn skills, become an entrepreneur and earn well with your sweat............ I wish all schools become a local skill learning center in all villages within our community

Utterly shameful,you should see how other institutions are exhibiting mind blowing innovations.....if a whole institution thinks bakery business is the new normal then it just simply shows how buried our education system is. Little wonder the drive for money and mundane things has driven so many young generation to early graves.
