… Offers 15% Discount for Early Payment

The Lagos State Government has released the 2025 Land Use Charge (LUC) Bill, reinforcing its commitment to the continuous provision of world-class infrastructure and services for all residents.

According to the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Abayomi Oluyemi, property owners across the state are encouraged to take advantage of the 15% discount on their Land Use Charge by making early payments before the deadline. He explained that the Land Use Charge is a crucial revenue source that enables the government to maintain and improve essential public infrastructure, including roads, healthcare facilities, schools, and security enhancements.

In his words, “Recent projects funded through taxpayers' contributions include: The Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue and Red Lines – transforming urban mobility and reducing travel time; construction and rehabilitation of key roads and bridges – easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity; expansion of healthcare facilities – providing better access to quality healthcare for residents; enhanced security measures – ensuring a safer environment for businesses and communities amongst others”.

Abayomi emphasised that Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu's vision of building a safe, livable, and globally competitive megacity remains steadfast. The present istration intends to continue to implement policies that drive sustainable development, attract investments, and elevate Lagos to the ranks of the world's most advanced cities.

“This is a call to action for all property owners to this mission by fulfilling their civic duty and paying their Land Use Charge promptly. By doing so, they contribute directly to the growth and transformation of Lagos into a #Greater Lagos that all residents can be proud of.

“To ensure convenience and seamless payment, property owners can pay their Land Use Charge using the following methods: Internet Banking; Bank Deposits – at designated banks across the state; Mobile Payment – through USSD codes; POS available at LUC offices; Lagos Online Assistant - (LOLA - Whatsapp Robotic payment platform)”, he added.

The Commissioner, therefore, urged all property owners to take advantage of the 15% discount by paying early and playing their part in making Lagos a modern, thriving metropolis.

… Issues Stop Work Order, Arrests Suspected Operators

The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, has launched a massive clampdown on illegal dredgers operating in the State, ordering them to stop work immediately.

This exercise, which was carried out by the officials of the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, is aimed at curbing environmental degradation and promoting sustainable development across the waterfront schemes located across the coastal regions of the metropolis.

The enforcement operation, led by Hon. Ekundayo Alebiosu, Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, alongside of his team, raided several illegal dredging sites which were subsequently shut down by the officials of the Ministry. Some suspected dredging operators were arrested and a stop-work order was served on erring dredgers for non-compliance with laid-down regulations of the State Government.

Alebiosu warned the operators that failure to comply with extant laws guiding dredging activities could have dire effects and will result in severe penalties, including total closure of the sites.

Reacting to the claim that Dredgers are the major cause of environmental degradation in the state, including erosion and flooding, the Commissioner emphasised the need for dredging activities to be conducted lawfully to preserve roads, public infrastructure, and wetlands. He explained that the State Government has vowed to streamline the activities of dredgers in the state to meet acceptable international standards.

The Lagos State Government's clampdown on illegal dredgers is a significant step towards protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development in the state. We will continue to carry out surveillance and raids across the coastal areas to ensure that the activities of a few don't impact the lives of law-abiding citizens negatively”. Alebiosu stated.

In continuation of efforts to restore environmental sanity across the metropolis, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI and in conjunction with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), on Thursday removed more than 650 illegal shanties and shops beneath the Idunmota Bridge to dislodge traders occupying the base of the structure to display wares for sale.

Speaking on the exercise, the Corps Marshal of the Agency, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd), made this disclosure at the Agency’s Command Headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi. According to him, ‘‘The clearance operation with the code name #LetLagosBreathe undertaken by our operatives in collaboration with LAWMA ensured that we dislodged defiant traders erecting shops beneath the bridge which is hazardous to the integrity of the structure and capable of causing infernos’’.

Cole also mentioned that the clearance operation was activated to forestall a repeat of the Apongbon bridge incident, which pointed accusing fingers at traders that erected electrical installations and cooling systems under the Apongbon bridge, which caused the inferno.

The KAI Boss also warned traders in the habit of erecting illegal structures beneath other bridges to desist from the act, as defaulters will be made to face the full wrath of the law. He mentioned that the operation would be continuous.

The Corps Marshall also read the riot act to street traders to refrain from hawking in traffic and displaying wares for sale on road setbacks, lay-bys, medians, verges, kerbs and gutter slabs which is in stark violation of the State’s Environmental Laws. He ened transiting Lagosians to always embrace safety by using pedestrian bridges when crossing highways in the State.
