Why many Nigerians still face visa rejections despite meeting all requirements – Travel expert
Nigerian travel expert Bethia Idoko has explained why many Nigerians continue to face visa rejections despite meeting all listed requirements, both at home and abroad.
Bethia, who has travelled to 90 countries using a Nigerian port with a wealth of experience on both visa rejections and approvals, revealed that visa denials are often linked to poor documentation in an exclusive interview with Nairametrics.
“Many embassies are very particular about evidence of ties to home, financial stability, and clear travel intentions. Unfortunately, due to Nigeria’s reputation in some circles regarding overstays or illegal migration, even well-prepared applications are sometimes scrutinized harshly,” she said.
In addition to this, she noted that a lack of awareness among applicants about specific embassy requirements leads to errors, inconsistencies, or incomplete submissions, factors that can automatically disqualify an application.
Fake documents and street agents worsen the situation
Many visa rejections, according to Bethia, are also tied to fraudulent documents or misinformation provided by unlicensed travel agents.
“Completely avoid fake documents; they could get you banned. Too many Nigerians have been blacklisted by the UK and other countries because of fake bank statements or employment letters submitted by street agents,” she warned.
Bethia emphasized the danger of relying on self-proclaimed travel “consultants” who operate without regulation and often prioritize profits over compliance.
Practical strategies that work
For Nigerians determined to improve their chances, Bethia recommends a strategic and methodical approach:
• Build a travel history: Start with countries that have relatively more open and easy visa policies for Nigerians to build your travel history
• Confirm visa requirements: Always double-check the visa requirements directly from the embassy’s website, not just from travel blogs or agencies. Your port tells a story use it to show that you travel responsibly and return home.
• Meticulous document preparation: Applying for a visa and traveling is an expensive venture, so paying for proper consultation is wise; it can save you money, time, and energy in the long run by avoiding visa rejections, re-applications, or appeals.
• Apply early and write a compelling cover letter explaining your travel purpose.
• Seek guidance from reputable consultants who understand the process.
“Your port tells a story. Use it to show that you travel responsibly and return home. I always tell people: paying for proper consultation can save you from losing more money to rejections,” she said.
Even strong applications can face rejection
While submitting all the correct documents is crucial, Bethia stressed that visa approval is never guaranteed, and there can be exceptions even for applicants who meet every listed requirement.
She recalled one such experience when her US visa was denied, despite having a complete and properly prepared application.
“The consular officer simply said they weren’t convinced I’d return. It was devastating. But I didn’t let that stop me. I improved my application, got professional advice, and reapplied,” she said
That moment, though painful, became a turning point in her journey. It helped her sharpen her understanding of international travel requirements and inspired her to educate others on better travel documentation and preparation.
Bethia also explained that obtaining a visa doesn’t always mean smooth travel. Nigerian port holders often encounter extra screening and suspicion at foreign airports.
“In Norway, they questioned me for 40 minutes and asked me to open my banking apps so they could confirm I had enough money,” she said.
Despite traveling with all the right papers, she said the unspoken bias toward Nigerian travelers can be emotionally draining.
Nigeria’s policy gaps make things worse
Bethia believes that part of the challenge is Nigeria’s limited success in building reciprocal visa agreements and stronger diplomatic ties.
“The government can play a huge role by strengthening our global image through diplomatic relations, bilateral agreements, and visa reciprocity that make visa processes easier for Nigerians.
There should also be better systems for citizens applying for visas, such as verified immigration information centers,” she said.
She suggested that Nigeria establish official immigration information centres to guide citizens on proper procedures and reduce dependency on informal sources or unlicensed agents
What you should know
• In 2024 alone, Nigeria recorded a 45.9% Schengen visa rejection rate up from 40.8% in 2023, making it the third-highest globally, according to data from the European Commission.
• This means nearly half of all Schengen visa applications submitted by Nigerians were denied, amounting to 50,376 short-stay visa refusals last year.
• Collectively, Nigerians have lost over €4.5 million (about $5 million) in application fees without securing access to the 29 European countries that make up the Schengen Area. This is with the non-refundable visa fee increase from €80 to €90 as of June 11, 2024.

The scheme was established with the primary aim of reconstructing, reconciling, and rebuilding the nation after the Nigerian Civil War.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a one-year mandatory program for Nigerian graduates.
It combines paramilitary training with national service, aiming to promote unity, peace, and cultural understanding across the country. The scheme has evolved over the decades, with its orientation camps becoming pivotal in preparing Nigerian graduates for a year of national service. But how did it all begin?
What Is NYSC?
The NYSC is a mandatory one-year program for Nigerian graduates, initiated by the federal government under General Yakubu Gowon's military regime. The scheme was established on May 22, 1973, through Decree No. 24, with the primary aim of reconstructing, reconciling, and rebuilding the nation after the Nigerian Civil War.
By deploying young graduates to states other than their own, the program seeks to promote national unity, encourage cultural integration, and instil a sense of patriotism among the youth.
The early years after Nigeria’s independence from Britain were marked by civil unrest and ethnic divisions, culminating in the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970). In response, the federal government introduced the NYSC scheme as part of a broader strategy known as the 3Rs – Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Reconciliation – to heal the nation and prevent future conflict.
Decree No. 24 of 1973, which established the NYSC, outlines its key objectives:
• Foster national unity
• Promote cultural integration
• Encourage self-reliance and service to the nation
Since then, the scheme has deployed millions of Nigerian youths across state lines, encouraging them to live, work, and serve in regions different from their place of origin or residence.
How NYSC Works
At the start of the program, corps are sent to a three-week orientation camp, where they receive military-style training, participate in leadership and skills workshops, and engage in physical drills and team-building activities. The camps are designed to instil discipline and prepare corps for their assignments.
After camp, corps are posted to their Place of Primary Assignment (PPA), such as schools, hospitals, government agencies, or private companies, where they serve for the remaining 10 months. At the end of the service year, corps receive a Certificate of National Service, which is often required for government and private sector employment in Nigeria.
The First NYSC Camp in Nigeria
While many may assume the program started in the north, the first-ever NYSC orientation camp was actually located in Enugu State. The NYSC Enugu camp, formerly used as a military site during the Nigerian Civil War (it was known as the Ojukwu camp), was chosen due to its historical significance and existing infrastructure. The first batch of corps was officially discharged at a special ceremony held in Zaria on June 30, 1974.
How Many NYSC Camps Are in Nigeria Today?
As of 2024, there are 37 official NYSC orientation camps in Nigeria, one in each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). These camps are operated and maintained by the federal government, and each batch of corps is deployed simultaneously across the nation. The expansion from one historic site in Enugu to 37 active camps is a reflection of how integral NYSC has become to Nigeria’s youth development strategy.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) began as a bold initiative to heal a divided nation and foster peace, unity, and national development. Over five decades later, it still stands as a symbol of national integration. However, the scheme has faced growing criticism in recent years, with many questioning its relevance and safety.
The original goals of unity and inclusion appear increasingly out of reach, as tribalism persists. Alarming reports of corps being kidnapped, attacked, or even killed either en route to orientation camps or during their service have fueled public outcry. If the federal government can no longer guarantee the safety and well-being of corps , perhaps it is time to reconsider or reform the program to reflect present-day realities.

The Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) has unveiled an ambitious plan to rake in N200 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), leveraging ongoing tax reforms centered around the National Identification Number (NIN).
The Executive Chairman of KIRS, Dr. Zaid Abubakar, disclosed this during a stakeholder recognition ceremony held to honour individuals and organisations contributing to the agency’s performance despite economic and structural challenges.
According to Dr. Abubakar, the state has recorded significant progress since 2024 in areas such as tax compliance, revenue growth, and service delivery, driven by reforms and strong collaboration with partners.
Digital tax system
A key achievement in the reform process is the deployment of a digital tax system that requires taxpayers to using their NIN.
This integration, he said, has led to a surge in NIN enrolment in the state, with 10.2 million residents now enrolled.
“We have been deliberate in ensuring our tax system incorporates the NIN to eliminate identification issues. With a reliable database, we can drive transparency and ability in tax istration,” he said.
KIRS is now targeting the registration of at least two million taxpayers, each expected to remit a minimum of N100,000 annually.
If successful, this will generate N200 billion in IGR for the state.
Dr. Abubakar also hinted at a more aggressive target in the future, citing Kano’s population strength as a major advantage over other states.
“Imagine having six million active taxpayers each contributing N100,000 annually, that’s N600 billion, a game changer for our state,” he added.
• He noted that while Kano currently trails Lagos State in of tax revenue, the tide could soon turn as Kano ramps up reforms and harnesses its demographic advantage.
• The KIRS boss expressed appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf for his unwavering and the enabling environment provided for revenue reform initiatives.
• With these efforts, Kano is positioning itself not just as a revenue-generating powerhouse in northern Nigeria but as a potential rival to Lagos in tax performance.
What you should know
Kano State has one of the largest numbers of citizens captured on the NIN database, and it is second only to Lagos, which tops the table.
According to data released by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Kano State had 10.2 million people with NIN as of February 2025, while Lagos led with 12.6 million.
NIMC’s figures also show that these two states, which have the largest population in Nigeria, have maintained the lead in NIN enrolment since the beginning of the exercise.

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen has been crowned the Golden Boot winner in the Turkish Super Lig.
He scored 26 goals this season as Galatasaray claimed their 25th league title. He was also named the Player of the Season in the Turkish league.
Osimhen ed 37 goals and eight assists in all competitions and helped his side to a domestic double, winning both the league and the Turkish Cup.
The Nigerian forward is widely rated as one of Europe’s finest strikers this season, with top clubs like Al Hilal, Juventus, and Manchester United reportedly eyeing him.
Galatasaray, however, are keen on retaining his services, aiming to build their team around him.
What makes Osimhen’s season particularly remarkable is that it has put him in contention for a second CAF Men’s Player of the Year award. However, he faces stiff competition from other African stars who also had exceptional campaigns—and some might be slightly ahead of him in the race.
Achraf Hakimi is one of those players. The Moroccan fullback finished second to Ademola Lookman in last year’s CAF awards, but this season he looks like a clear favorite.
He played a vital role in Paris Saint-Germain’s quadruple-winning campaign, including scoring in the UEFA Champions League final.
With nine goals and 14 assists, Hakimi’s attacking output is phenomenal for a right-back.
Beyond the stats, his stamina, tactical intelligence, and ability to transition from defense to attack were crucial for PSG all season. Mohamed Salah is also in the conversation—and deservedly so. He had yet another outstanding season, winning the Premier League, Golden Boot, and Playmaker Award.
The Egyptian scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists in the league, and finished the season with a staggering 34 goals and 23 assists in all competitions. At 32, Salah’s consistency remains unmatched.
He also became the fifth-highest goal scorer in Premier League history, with 186 goals.
Additionally, he was named Premier League Player of the Season and FWA Footballer of the Year. Serhou Guirassy is perhaps the most underrated name among the contenders. The Guinean striker had an incredible season and was instrumental for Borussia Dortmund.
He ended the Champions League campaign as the t-top scorer, with 13 goals—sharing the Golden Boot with Raphinha.
In the Bundesliga, Guirassy scored 21 goals and had 10 assists across all competitions.
Despite Dortmund’s poor overall form, Guirassy’s contributions helped the club finish strong, going unbeaten in their last eight matches to secure Champions League qualification.
His hat-trick against Barcelona in the knockout stage was a career-defining performance.
All four players had phenomenal seasons, and while they all deserve recognition, the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award will ultimately come down to votes—which may be influenced by individual biases. Frontrunners for the CAF Men’s Award:
1. Achraf Hakimi – Outstanding contribution from right-back in a historic PSG season. Often overlooked because of his position, but his impact was immense.
2. Serhou Guirassy – Delivered big moments in a struggling team. If he had better service or media hype, his achievements would be even more celebrated.
3. Mohamed Salah – A phenomenal season again, but his underwhelming displays against PSG in the Champions League, the FA Cup loss to Plymouth, and the Carabao Cup final hurt his case.
4. Victor Osimhen – Had a superb campaign, but the Turkish league’s relatively lower profile may affect his chances.

2027: You conspired, removed Jonathan yet nothing changed, shine your eyes – Dickson to Amaechi, Atiku, others
A former Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, has handed a subtle warning to leaders of the new political coalition.
DAILY POST reports that there is an ongoing coalition being built by the likes of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, among others.
Top politicians across the country gathered to celebrate the 60th birthday of Amaechi in Abuja on Saturday.
Speaking earlier, Atiku had declared himself, Amaechi, and El-Rufai as conspirators.
Atiku said he, Amaechi, and the opposition coalition are united in their opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s istration.
In response, Dickson warned his political colleagues to be mindful of the choices they make, adding that their past conspiracy and coalition, which removed the Peoples Democratic Party and Goodluck Jonathan from office in 2015, has not favoured Nigerians.
He said, “When I came in here and climbing up here, I’ve seen a lot of you. And as my brother said, there are a number of you who are expert conspirators, who know how to assemble coalitions and then take out governments, as you did to my party in 2015.
“And when you did so, particularly to a clueless government, so-called, now 11 years down the line, we thought that there would have been no weaponization of poverty and that all the challenges of Nigeria would have been gone.
“And the only advice I can give, not being a professional coalition builder and conspirator as some of you are, is at this time, shine your eyes.”

Spanish footballer Lamine Yamal signed a new contract with FC Barcelona on Tuesday, extending his stay at the club until 2031 and becoming one of the Catalan giants’ highest-paid players.
The 17-year-old winger, known for his flair, creativity, and long-range curling strikes, played a key role in helping his boyhood club secure a domestic treble comprising La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.
Yamal, who made his senior debut in 2023 under then-manager Xavi Hernández at the age of just 15, delivered standout performances in both legs of the Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan, matches that generated significant attention.
However, Barcelona were narrowly defeated 7–6 on aggregate, prolonging their wait for European glory.
Yamal’s new contract, which runs until he turns 24, includes various performance-based bonuses, including one for winning the Ballon d’Or, along with a substantial salary increase.
His contract renewal follows recent extensions signed by team-mate Raphinha and new head coach Hansi Flick.
Before breaking into the first team during the 2023–24 season, Yamal was a standout talent in Barcelona’s famed youth academy, La Masia.
“Barcelona and Lamine Yamal have reached a deal to extend his contract to June 30, 2031.
“Lamine Yamal’s renewal is a demonstration of the solidity of Barca’s project. His emergence on to the world football scene is like few others, and it began with his debut on April 29, 2023, still at the age of 15,” Barcelona said in a statement.
Yamal, who won Euro 2024 with Spain last summer, was described by former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane as an incredible player.
The French professional football manager and former attacking midfielder said: “Lamine Yamal’s second half against Inter. I’ve never seen anything like that in my life!”. To see someone with such control on the pitch, it’s amazing. We all enjoy watching him play”.
Apart from Yamal, Raphinha, and Flick, who have all signed new deals, the club’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny is also set to sign a new contract very soon.
A verbal agreement has been in place with the Polish shot-stopper, who is now expected to remain at the club, as planned since March.
Szczęsny was brought in to cover for the injured Marc-André ter Stegen, initially ing on a short-term deal until 30 June 2025.
Since then, he has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper under Hansi Flick.
He has also turned down a call-up to the Polish national team, choosing instead to concentrate on his club commitments.

Bodunrin studies in a top university. He only misses that Naija vibe.
Bodunrin never recovered from what #EndSARS did to him, but that trauma led him to accept a scholarship to study at New York University (NYU). In this story, he shares how he got into the world-class university and why he’s missing the most mundane things about Nigeria.
When did you leave Nigeria, and where are you now?
I left Nigeria in August 2024 and live in New Jersey, United States (US), but I’m studying at New York University (NYU).
Nice. What motivated your relocation?
I wasn’t exactly the type of person who prioritised relocation, but I wanted to experience world-class education. I had also been struggling to get over the hopelessness that the #EndSARS protest filled me with, so it made sense to move.
I’m sorry about that. And congratulations on NYU; how did that happen?
A former editor at the publication where I worked had moved to the U.S. on a student visa about a year before me. One day, out of nowhere, she sent me a list of schools in the U.S. and said, “Why don’t you apply?” We hadn’t even talked about it before that. It felt so random, but timely.
I applied to two schools on the list—New York University and the University of Utah. A few months later, I got itted into NYU with an 80% scholarship. It’s not a full scholarship, but the good thing is that it’s easier to make money here. I also recently got another $4,000 scholarship, and I’m covering my living expenses with income from work.
Please share the step-by-step process of how you got the NYU scholarship
For NYU, you don’t apply separately for funding. You just apply to the program, and they consider you for funding based on the strength of your application.
In my case, I had to write a personal statement of about 2,600 words because the program I applied to is very writing-intensive. I talked about my motivations in that statement and subtly hinted at my financial situation. From what I understand, they assess your application based on your statement and background, which determines how much funding they offer. That’s how it is with most of the schools in the U.S.
I didn’t apply for any extra scholarships at the time, except for the Global Journalist Fellowship. It’s worth about $30,000 and very competitive. Thousands of people apply every year. Unfortunately, I didn’t get it, but I know a Nigerian who did.
What makes an application NYU-worthy?
It helps to have a great CGPA, but it’s not a deal-breaker. My CGPA was 3.6 out of 5, which is about 2.6 on the US 4-point scale. It wasn’t impressive by US standards, but I had solid professional experience– I was already working with news publications from my third year in university.
The personal statement is super important, especially for writing-heavy courses. It needs to show that you’ve thought deeply about why you’re applying, what you plan to get out of the program, how your experiences tie into the course, and what value you’re bringing into the program.
Many people go the sad story route, especially as Nigerians, but you don’t have to. It’s better to focus on a personal experience that genuinely connects to your chosen field. Also, don’t use ChatGPT or AI tools to write it; issions officers can tell. You need your voice to shine through.
Your CV is almost as important as the statement itself. You need to show what you’ve done (internships, jobs, volunteer work, even student activism) related to your field. Don’t just tell them you have potential; show them you’ve already started doing the work.
Thank you. I’m curious, though; how did you end up in New Jersey?
I moved to New Jersey because the rent in New York is insane. Both cities share a border, and the train ride from my place to school is about 40 minutes. Many students, especially Nigerians and other Africans, move to New Jersey once they settle in.
Insane rent aside, how has life been since you moved?
Education-wise, it’s been great. I can’t say I’m surprised by what I’ve seen, because even though this is my first time in the country, I already knew a lot about the U.S., maybe even more than some Americans.
I’ve spent years reading deeply and widely about the country. I’ve watched documentaries, read books, and done other things to learn about the country, so a lot of what I’m experiencing now are things I have already encountered in theory. For instance, there’s this scene in Chimamanda Adichie’s Americanah where the character, Ifemelu, talks about how the school system encourages you always to say something in class, even when you don’t have anything meaningful to say. Honestly, I’ve seen that play out here.
Class participation is a big deal here. In some of my classes, it counts for up to 35% of your grade. And we are 14 in my class, so it’s impossible to avoid it.
That aside, it’s a very impressive school. My faculty has podcast studios and all kinds of equipment. We are also taught by professors who are major writers in America. I’m talking about New York Times bestseller authors.
Oh, that’s interesting. How about your social life?
I’d say seven out of ten. I’m naturally a pessimistic person; even if you put me in Xanadu (the imaginary perfect place from Eastern philosophy), I’d probably still find a reason not to be 10/10 happy.
There’s a lot I miss about Nigeria. The food is available here, but it’s expensive. I miss being able to buy Nigerian food without breaking the bank. I miss the smell of Lagos. I know people say it stinks, and yes, it does, but I still miss it. I miss walking down the street and hearing the okada guy shouting something ridiculous. I miss the market women calling out to me to come and buy things. I miss the energy and the chaos.
People in New York like to say, “If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere”, but I just laugh. This city has about 8 million people, while Lagos has 20 million people in a much smaller space. Times Square is supposed to be the busiest place in NYC, but it feels calm compared to Balogun Market.
So yeah, I’m happy, but a big part of me still misses home.

Here’s how a high-earning freelance video editor in Nigeria balances lifestyle, spending, and smart savings.
*Tadafe, 27, is a Nigerian freelancer working at the intersection of media post-production, brand design, and crypto. After leaving a 9-5 job in 2021, he’s built a financially stable life through global freelance work and is saving aggressively for a master’s degree abroad. This is Tadafe’s story, As Told To Aisha Bello.Income: How I Make My Money
I make over ₦2 million monthly as a freelance post-production video editor and brand designer.
My freelance journey started in 2018, and I built my early client base on Upwork. Over time, I moved my highest-paying clients off the platform to retainer deals, which gave me more freedom and financial consistency.
One of my clients is a Nigerian influencer living in Brazil. I handle his complete post-production: weekly long-form videos at ₦150,000 each, plus two short-form clips at ₦50,000 each. That totals around ₦400,000 a week or ₦1.6 million monthly.
The second is a US-based YouTuber. Our base contract is $400/month for weekly video post-production, but he regularly sends extra work that bumps it up to about $600/month.
I’ve worked consistently with both clients for over two years, and their income stream has remained remarkably stable.
Outside of that, I started working in crypto last December, mostly branding and graphic design for Web3 startups. I’ve earned about $7,000 in the space through paid collaborations and design bounties.
Even though I’ve stopped uwork full-time, I still get occasional gigs through the platform, which brings in about $300/month.
So, between my naira and dollar clients, crypto gigs, and occasional Upwork work, I make a little over ₦2 million monthly, and I’m actively working on increasing that. Spending: What My Money Goes Into Monthly
I only spend my naira income and try to live well within my means. On average, I spend about 72% of my monthly naira earnings, with the rest either saved or set aside in my naira .
I prioritise my health and wellness the most. I pay ₦30,000 monthly for my gym hip. After every workout, I treat myself to a healthy breakfast, usually chicken salad, protein-heavy meals, and smoothies from a restaurant near the gym. This adds up to about ₦200,000 a month. A typical work day in my life starts like this:
I wake up at 5 a.m. for daily devotion, then go back to sleep before I properly start my day at 8 a.m. Then I head to the gym, spend a few hours there, have breakfast, and return home by 11 a.m. to freshen up.
From 12 p.m. to 1 a.m., I’m at my desk editing, deg, or handling strategy. I take breaks only for lunch and dinner, which my mum graciously prepares.
I still live with my parents, so I don’t pay rent, but I contribute to household bills. Earlier this year, I spent ₦1.6 million installing a solar , so I rarely worry about electricity or fuel anymore. Every month, I chip in:
• ₦20,000 weekly for soup ingredients
• ₦50,000 for general foodstuff
• ₦50,000 as a monthly allowance for each of my retired parents
That’s ₦170,000 monthly toward the home. My Lifestyle & Social Life
I believe in enjoying life and staying social, so I spend:
• ₦60,000/month hanging out with my guys (we split bills, so it’s around ₦15,000 per hangout)
• ₦160,000/month on dates (I went on four dates this month at ₦40,000 each. I like to cover everything)
• ₦100,000/month for personal gifts (this month, I bought an Arabian perfume for ₦40k, rings and bracelets for ₦25k, and two watches for ₦40k)
• ₦200,000/month on gifts for friends (birthdays and random surprise food deliveries)
• ₦100,000/month on transport (mainly to the gym, meetups, and dates)
• ₦50,000/month tithe or donations to the church charity
• ₦80,000 quarterly on skincare My dollar income from Upwork goes into subscriptions and professional tools:
• ₦35,000/month for unlimited data on my Airtel router
• $20/month for ChatGPT
• $150/month for all my video editing software
• ₦8,500/month for Netflix
• $100/month for digital assets like LUTs for colour grading, editing presets, and resources that level up my craft, and keep my creative process running smoothly. Savings: “How I Handle What’s Left”
I save more than I spend.
I intentionally save ₦300,000 each month, but I have an extra ₦500,000 left over in my before the next payment cycle starts. I like knowing there’s money sitting in my ; it gives me a sense of calm.
I began saving with PiggyVest in January 2024, and while most of my naira income goes into daily living, I’ve still managed to grow my balance to ₦4.8 million.
I haven’t touched my dollar income since early last year. It all goes into my Geegpay dollar , where my US client pays me. Currently, I have $6,400 saved, untouched and growing monthly. My crypto earnings are split into two parts:
• $2,000 in USDC, a stablecoin I keep for security and easy liquidity
• 5,000 units of a native token from a crypto ecosystem I worked with.
The native token was worth $5,000 at its peak this January, but with the crypto market downturn, it’s now valued at around $2,700. I keep it staked to earn ive income and use some to trade crypto futures. It’s more of an experiment and long-term play for me. Investments & Future Plans: What I’m Working Toward
I’m strongly considering buying land and exploring real estate before the year ends. But my biggest priority right now is saving enough to relocate and pursue my master’s degree.
I’ve thought about buying a car, but I’m holding back. I don’t want to make a big-ticket purchase that’ll wipe out my savings and set me back to square one. I’ve seen friends move out, buy cars, and end up broke. And honestly, that’s my biggest fear: going broke.
Realistically, I want to ramp up my workload, upskill, and secure more high-paying clients. My goal is to save at least $100,000 within the next year.
I want enough financial stability to study abroad without worrying about working while studying.
For the rest of the year, my focus is simple: spend less, earn more, save aggressively and live well, while at it. What Freelancing Has Taught Me
I genuinely enjoy what I do. It’s fun, creative, flexible, and fulfilling. But let’s be real: the best part is making good money.
More than anything, freelancing has taught me how to survive and thrive on my own .
After a 9–5 brand design job straight out of university that paid ₦150k a month, I knew I wanted more. The job left little room for growth or freelancing on the side, so I couldn’t build the life I envisioned.
Six years later, freelancing has taught me how to negotiate and set my rates, build lasting client relationships, pitch myself confidently, deliver consistently and exceed expectations.
I’m comfortable as an independent freelancer. When the time comes to scale, I’ll branch out and run my own business. For now, I’m growing my income, saving intentionally, and enjoying the life I’m building.

Amorim's team lost everything there was to lose, sits 16th in the Premier League, and misses European competition for the first time in 36 years.
The 2024/25 season was one to forget for Manchester United: 16th place in the Premier League, elimination from the FA Cup and the League Cup, and a defeat in the UEFA Europa League final, confirming their absence from European competitions for the first time in 36 years.
Ruben Amorim took over as manager of the Red Devils in November of last year, arriving from Sporting Lisbon, but couldn't reverse the downward spiral of a team seemingly doomed to failure. Since Alex Ferguson's departure, they have squandered millions of euros without any success to show for it.
An analysis by Marca reveals the Red Devils' fruitless investment since 2013, when the legendary Scottish manager left Old Trafford: €2.05 billion spent on 203 gs, a figure sured only by PSG (€2.81 billion) and Man City (€2.18 billion). Despite the heavy spending, the team's value continues to decline: €669.25 million.
Spiraling Costs, Shrinking Returns: Where Did the €2 Billion Go?
Worse than any other team is their net spend – a deficit of €1.464 billion, having only received €589 million in transfer fees.
Pogba led the investments (€105 million) and is among the biggest names, which also include Lukaku (€85 million), Di María (€75 million), Casemiro (€70.6 million), and Cristiano Ronaldo (€17 million).
More recently, players like Antony (€95 million), Jadon Sancho (€85 million), Hojlund (€77.8 million), and Martial (€60 million), seen as promising prospects, have not only failed to impress but have also significantly increased the club's expenditure.
Managerial Roulette: No Vision, No Stability, No Results
The choice of managers has also contributed to United's downfall, particularly given the lack of a clear strategy behind appointing Ryan Giggs, Louis van Gaal, José Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and now Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese manager refuses to throw in the towel, stating he won't resign and will only leave if the club wants him to.
According to The Guardian, he will have €120 million to rebuild the squad for next season, with players like Matheus Cunha (Wolverhampton) and Liam Delap (Ipswich) linked to the club.
Further compounding the club's problems, the Europa League final defeat against Tottenham led to a 7% drop in share prices. This comes on top of ongoing cost-cutting measures in the name of sustainability, as success seems further away than ever.

FULL LIST: Qualified EPL teams for 2025–26 Champions League, Europa League, Conference.
After an intense final day in the English Premier League, EPL, here’s how the dust settled with teams securing their places in European competitions for the 2025–26 season.
The 2024–25 EPL season concluded dramatically, with last-minute goals, stunning upsets, and emotional scenes across stadiums.
Now that the curtain has closed, the EPL final league standings and cup results have determined which English teams will fly the flag in Europe next season.
Champions League
Six Premier League teams will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season, with five qualifying via league positions and one securing a spot by winning a European trophy.
Liverpool – Arne Slot’s men capped off a spectacular campaign by lifting the Premier League trophy, finishing top of the table and booking a return to Europe’s elite competition.
Arsenal – Mikel Arteta’s side secured second place after a strong finish to the season.
Manchester City – Despite a turbulent season by their lofty standards, Pep Guardiola’s side beat Fulham on the final day to seal third place.
Chelsea – A turnaround in form under Enzo Maresca saw the Blues defeat Nottingham Forest to leap into fourth, sealing a Champions League return.
Newcastle United – Although they lost on the final day, the Magpies edged Aston Villa to fifth place thanks to a superior goal difference.
Tottenham Hotspur – Ange Postecoglou’s men triumphed in the UEFA Europa League final, and as a result, secured an automatic Champions League berth despite finishing outside the top five domestically.
Europa League
Crystal Palace – The Eagles stunned many by lifting the FA Cup, thereby securing a place in the Europa League. It marks a historic achievement for the South London club.
Aston Villa – After their Champions League campaign this season, Unai Emery’s side couldn’t repeat the feat domestically. They finished sixth in the league and will now aim to make a deep run in the Europa League.
Conference League
Nottingham Forest – A ‘questionably’ remarkable season for Forest ended as they clinched a place in the UEFA Conference League. They marked a return to European football even though what they would have wished for was a Champions League.

Lol... Don't bother.
Even their fans won't be cheering them on Sunday.
The season is over... Infact, that game na preseason for the players that are not on sale, while for those up for sale and release, it's farewell.
Villa should comfortably beat them.
Players like Garnacho, Casemiro, Bruno, Eriksen, Onana, Lindelof, and Hojlund might be playing their last game this Sunday.
And those players that might be playing their last match, they will play to win because that will be their last match.
Anyway, GGMU, they must beat Villa for us. We are counting on them

Great100000: Work permit, valid port, N80k fee… how Nigerians in diaspora can apply for BVN
Nigerians living abroad are now required to pay $50 (about N80,000) to for the bank verification number (BVN), according to findings by TheCable.
On May 13, the CBN, in collaboration with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), launched the non-resident bank verification number (NRBVN) platform to ease access to financial services for Nigerians in the diaspora.
The NRBVN platform allows Nigerians abroad to obtain their BVN remotely, eliminating the long-standing requirement of physical presence in Nigeria.
Olayemi Cardoso, governor of CBN, said the NRBVN is aimed at increasing financial inclusion, particularly for Nigerians living outside the country.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE NRBVN
Applicants can access the new platform and with a recognised email by visiting the link https://nibss-plc.com.ng/nrbvn/.
After registration, a link is sent to the email address provided to activate the applicant’s . The link also redirects the applicant to another page for creation.
The next process requires them to scan a QRcode using any two-factor authentication (2FA) app like Google Authenticator.
When this is successfully achieved, applicants are taken to a page with options to “Onboard, Open Bank , or Remit Money.” From here, applicants select their appropriate type status from three options: ‘Nigerian, no BVN’, ‘Nigerian, BVN’, and ‘Nigerian by descent’.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR NRBVN ISSUANCE
To use any of the services on the platform, a valid port is the primary requirement, according to the portal. However, where this is not available, other documents that can be used are the Nigerian port (valid or expired), proof of foreign residency (valid foreign port, residence permit, green card etc.), utility bill, work permit and/or proof of employment, proof of tax payment in the country of residence, and foreign bank statements.
N80,000 REGISTRATION FEE
On the new portal, applicants are notified of a mandatory $50 non-refundable fee to process their registration using either a Visa card or a Mastercard. This contrasts with the free BVN registration for Nigerians living in the country.
After confirming the information, s are redirected to a secure Tazapay checkout page to complete the transaction using their debit or credit cards.
The payment portal, powered by international gateway provider Tazapay, was launched to process applications from diaspora residents who are unable to travel to Nigeria for biometric enrollment.
Once all the required information and documents are provided and payments made, the NRBVN system will validate and screen the information. Once approved, an NRBVN will be provided within 72 hours.
As of May 2025, with the naira trading at around N1,600 to the dollar, the BVN registration fee represents a cost of approximately N80,000 per applicant.
The initiative is expected to enhance know-your-customer (KYC) compliance and reduce identity fraud across Nigeria’s banking system, particularly in the face of tightening regulatory oversight over fintech operations, foreign exchange (FX) inflows, and diaspora remittances.

Canada has introduced stricter rules in its Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), raising concerns among skilled foreign workers, including many Nigerians, who now face greater risks of deportation due to tighter hiring conditions.
Under the new regulations, employers must raise wages for high-skilled foreign hires to at least 20% above the regional median wage.
Companies can now only fill a maximum of 10% of low-wage roles with foreign workers.
These reforms, which took effect between September and November 2024, are designed to prioritise Canadian citizens for available jobs.
The government has also reclassified an estimated 34,000 positions from the high-wage to the low-wage stream, exposing more foreign workers to stricter oversight, fewer benefits, and increased job insecurity.
Many employers, particularly in sectors like hospitality, construction, and agriculture, said the changes are forcing them to scale back foreign hires or avoid renewing contracts due to rising labour costs.
For temporary foreign workers, this means expiring permits without renewal and limited options to secure new qualifying job offers, both of which can lead to deportation.
The caps and wage hikes are also reshaping Canada’s reputation as a top destination for skilled international talents.
Critics warned the policies may deter future applicants, disrupt travel and seasonal employment sectors, and trigger a loss of much-needed labour.
While the Canadian government insisted the reforms protect domestic employment, businesses and migrant advocacy groups are urging for a more balanced approach that recognizes the vital role foreign workers play in sustaining the country’s economy.

Man U is not a big club anymore. In fact this is where their problem begins from. They must accept that they have fallen and that there is need for a humble rebuilding. All this illusion of 'big' is why they will never recover.
They will end up like Everton and the likes who were once powerhouses in English football. Like play like play, Man U will be relegated if they keep thinking that they are big and always going about buying overpriced players. Let the media keep deceiving you and other fans. Una eyes go soon clear.
Hahahaha, my brother, Man Utd is still a big club ooooo, not only big but one of the biggest. I am a Chelsea fan and I am telling you the truth. Man Utd problem is very very deep and something is going on in that club that some people don't know.
Maybe, they also need to change their Mentality.
You will see some of their players that left Man Utd and now playing better.
Also, they need to lower their wages to the players.

Azazyel:
They won't even be able to attract good players at the moment cos they are not in Europe at all. Amorim has a big job on his hands right now. There's something going on inside that club that makes players go bad. There is something there that stunts players development. When Ronaldo came out to speak, it wasn't a joke. The club is in ruins. Spurs beat them 4times this season. Quite shameful! Even with how poor spurs are
I tell you, something is definitely going on in that club. And for Tottenham that was so so bad this season beat u 4 times sums it up.

When I told some ManU fans here that Tenhag is actually a good coach, they kept saying the man is terrible. Now they should be asking themselves how Tenhag managed to use these average players to win back to back trophies. Amorim is also a good coach but united need to recruit players that suit his style and he needs to offload the ones who can't fit in properly. Onana needs to leave ASAP if anything is to change. His mistakes have really cost them this season. Congrats to spurs. They were poor too but managed the game better.
I think the problems at Man Utd is too complicated. See, we keep blaming their players all the time, but when these players leave the club and other clubs, they excel, they play well. Look at Anthony, look at Wan Bissaka, look at Scott McTominay, and other players, they are playing well at their various clubs, so I think in my own opinion that Man Utd problem is too complicated. They also need to change their Mentality, I am a Chelsea fan, but common, this is not the old Man Utd I used to know, Since Sir Alex left the club, they're not the same club again.
The only Coach that tried small after Ferguson era is Mourinho and he tried to change their Mentality but I think the players don't want that.
Anyway, good luck to them.
It's not easy for a Big Club like Man Utd not to play in any UEFA competitions.

Tottenham end 17-Year trophy drought with Europa League triumph over Manchester United.
For Tottenham, this victory marks the end of a long wait for silverware, their last trophy being the 2008 League Cup
In a historic night for Tottenham Hotspur, the North London club secured their first major trophy in 17 years by defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final.
The decisive goal came in the 42nd minute, with Brennan Johnson converting an assist from Pape Sarr to send Spurs fans into raptures.
Though Wednesday’s match was by no means a dream final, Manchester United enjoyed the lion’s share of possession early on, pushing Spurs deep into their own half.
The Red Devils threatened several times through Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Højlund, but Guglielmo Vicario stood firm in goal.
A key turning point arrived in the 42nd minute. Pape Sarr launched a quick counter, sending in a low cross that Rodrigo Bentancur cleverly dummied, allowing Brennan Johnson to tap home from close range.
Despite United’s 60 per cent+ possession and territorial dominance, Spurs struck with precision—one attack, one goal.
Second Half
United threw everything forward in search of an equaliser. Garnacho came close, Bruno missed a sitter, and Højlund had a header blocked.
However, the Spurs backline, marshaled brilliantly by Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, held firm.
Time-wasting yellow cards and constant clearances showed Tottenham’s tactical maturity.
Late changes by Ruben Amorim, including the introductions of Garnacho and Zirkzee, added urgency but not the breakthrough.
Spurs absorbed wave after wave of pressure, with Destiny Udogie and Yves Bissouma making critical tackles and interceptions.
Wild celebration
As the final whistle blew, the Tottenham players fell to their knees in jubilation. Ange Postecoglou’s men defied the odds, soaking up pressure and delivering when it mattered most.
Manchester United dominated much of the match but paid the price for their profligacy in front of goal.
For Tottenham, this victory marks the end of a long wait for silverware, their last trophy being the 2008 League Cup.
