The problem with Microbiology is that its more of a tool and not a discipline (my opinion) Since you are already working in the area of Packaging, I would suggest you direct further learning in that direction. Look for trainings (think I saw one recently on eventbrite), meet people and build a career along that path. You could also get a Lean Sigma 6 certification, it would help a lot later on, especially since you are in the manufacturing industry. All the best |

Please go through this CV and ask yourself if you would hire yourself. Let me be real with you. I won't hire you for one major reason. You dont know how to prioririze information. Your CV is all over the place, there is no flow. I would advice that you expunge all those short courses, they mean nothing if you have never applied the knowledge. Certification often doesnt equal ability. The only way you can show yourself as competent is in showing what you have achieved. Also remove about half the jobs you have there, especially the ones relating to the census. You could create a seperate heading called 'Volunteering' and insert the short jobs under there. Expunge both objective and professional summary. For me the title 'Summary' is just fine fine. In the summary, just state what you have to offer and what you are looking for in no more than 50 words. After this list your top 5 skills in bullet points before talking about your work experience. Brevity is the key to good CV, if an employer is really interested in you, they would look you up online. Make sure you have evidence of the work you do at the radio station avialble for in your LinkedIn profile or personal website. You should not have more than 2 pages of your CV All the best 3 Likes 1 Share |

Well done OP. I would advise that you add an algorithm that simulates the ATS organisations use. It would simply check how much of a match the CV is to a job description, and then score it.

Well said OP, let me add one more. 4.Applying where everyone is applying- Estimates have it that an average of 80 persons apply for every job vacancy. I can assure you its way more in Nigeria judging from what we saw during the immigration and police force recruitment. The best way to get a job is to get the attention of the decision maker. I don't mean standing out in a crowd, I mean not being a part of the crowd at all. You can do this via a strong network (referral), someone who can connect you to the decision maker. A strong network can put your application right in the hands of the decision maker. Another way is to create a powerful personal brand. 1 Like |

Nice write up OP. I get what you are saying but I am not comfy with how you are making malaria a small issue. None of the other mosquito borne diseases are as problematic as malaria. Malaria kills over 400,000 persons annually, most of which are children. Responsible for over 150million clincal cases. Malaria is one of the reasons Africa is poor. the fight against Malaria. 2 Likes |

The determining factor here is Work experience. Entry level is entry level whether or not the fellow has an advanced degree. Only a few organisations give preference to persons with advanced degrees and even at that it's still gonna be an entry level position. The benefit, however, is that you get to rise up the career ladder a bit faster.

Nice Write up OP. I am not sure about travel agencies and tourism tho. The advent of online booking really hit travel agencies in Nigeria. These days most of them add port and Visa procurement to their service line up.

myners007: I dont usually do this but the things you have listed here are not entirely true. 1. The school fee of every university is high. The only reason you pay less in the public universities is cos someone (government) has paid the rest. 2. How do you measure competency biko, is it by the number of degrees or by achievements. I know two private universities in Nigeria who beat many other public universities to win major grants. I am talking grants in millions of dollars. Guess who drew up the proposal for these grants... the incompetent of staff. 3. As regards advanced degrees, I believe the aim here is to be able to apply concepts previously learned. Some private universities boast of some of the most advanced equipments needed to do research in Nigeria. Infact the average undergraduate research project in a private will amaze you talk less of post grad research projects 4. Recklessness is not unique to either private or public schools. 5. I assure you, this is not so. I won't say more than that. Private schools are still in their infancy, just give it a little while and the top 10 schools in Nigeria will be privately run schools. Check out who runs the top schools in the world 3 Likes |

Whatever work experince you include should be RELEVANT to the role you are applying for. You seem to have experince working with people, this would be good when applying for customer focused roles. If you however applied for a role, say in employee compensation and benefits (A part of HR), you would be basically considered an entry level applicant. Ergo, listing all the work experince for such a role MAY not do any good. My 2cents 2 Likes |

The other day I was in a postgraduate class on research methods and the lecturer, who also happens to be my supervisor, asked me a question about how I would go about starting my research. A thousand thoughts came to mind and I thought quickly about how best to answer the question; I decided to keep it simple and short. After I had given my answer she looked somewhat disappointed and went on to ask another person who gave a longer answer which she seemed pleased with. Getting back to my room, I started to ponder on the whole thing, I realised I could have also given the long version of my answer which could have been more interesting-I had failed to communicate the value I possessed. I then related this to how a whole lot of people who actually ‘know’ are regarded as people who do not know because they did not off the impression of knowing when given the chance. Often times, it takes a long while before one gets another opportunity- the whole experience gave a new meaning to the saying “opportunity once lost cannot be regained”. Relating this to the average job seeker, it is common knowledge that most job seekers only have ONE chance to impress a recruiter whether with a CV or in an interview. To make matters worse, it is said that it takes the recruiter about 6-8 seconds to scan through a CV. The challenge therefore is how to make your 8 seconds count. Here are a few tips that come to mind 1. Forget everything you know- I know this sounds crazy but the truth is most times what we know is often that which hinders us from getting to we are going. A whole lot of job seekers have doing the same things and expecting different results, truth is you will wait a long time. The world is changing at a super-fast pace and most persons are oblivious of these changes. This New Year, I would advise that you burn your old CVs, delete them from your phone and hard drives too and prepare a new one from scratch. 2. Avoid Clichés – Believe it or not, most CVs look the same. Having something that every other person has does not make you special or stand out. Avoid those common words on most CVs, subjective words like ‘creative’, and ‘innovative’. These words are just your opinion, there is no way to determine if you can really do these things just by looking at your CV. If you must include them, then also add an achievement section that outlines where you have demonstrated innovation or creativity. 3. Communicate Value- It is important you communicate, as much as possible, what you have to offer the recruiter. Most persons have a boring objective at the beginning of their CV stating how they hope to grow while also adding to the organisation blah blah blah. This New Year, I advise that you scrap the Objective and embrace the Summary. Start your CV with a paragraph about who you are, what you are, what you have to offer and what you are looking for. This gives a quick overview of your CV and might just be what would get your CV to the accepted pile. 4. Numbers- We are in the era of data. Data is everything today, it’s the new crude oil. In my opinion, a CV without numbers has lesser chances of getting selected. Numbers help communicate achievement. Need I say more? Finally, that products are not bought, they are sold. Have a productive job search in 2016 Cheers CC: lalasticlala 19 Likes 5 Shares |

dominique:It's on playstore. Search for sidekick. It's most likely going to be the first result on the list. You have to install the add on to chrome. You can get that from the chrome appstore. Once that is done, you can start to track your mails but not before you open an with them.
