But Naira got devalued at that point na.
How about all the investors that lost money and companies that folded and left Nigeria or went out of biz?
Besides, these numbers are fudged. See below

Elose11:

Lies from the pit of hell. My shares in Transcorp was worth N14,5m in April 2023. Its at N10.75m today. A huge decrease. so how can one invest 1m in the same Transcorp and expect to get N13.5m today?

motymop:
These returns are lies. They are built on perception rather than truth.

The problem with this data is that they didn't say the price, they bought and sold.

They presented the data as if stocks is like a money doubling scheme where as there are other companies that did very poorly

Nonsense. What about those who left out of frustration? Off course the available capital will go towards those left behind and then the Naira was devalued to bloat that.

Unserious element. Because people get accident in Lagos Ibadan expressway is the reason you won't travel abi?

Stay there and be eating your complain. While reasonable people are seeing OPPORTUNITIES, all you see is complain

These returns are lies. They are built on perception rather than truth.

The problem with this data is that they didn't say the price, they bought and sold.

They presented the data as if stocks is like a money doubling scheme where as there are other companies that did very poor.

In 2023, the lowest price of transcorp stock was N3.19, it highest was N19.20

If you put 1m at N3.19 that is 313.5k shares
If you put 1m at N19.20, you will get 52k shares

In 2025,, the lowest price of transcorp stock was NGN 42.90 and the highest is N43

If you sell, 313.5k shares at 42.90, you will make N13.4m but your profit is 12.4m

If you sell 52k shares at N43, you will make 2.2M but your profit will just be N1.2M

So your profit depends on the amount of shares you have, the price you bought it and the price you sold it

I'm somehow sceptical about the quoted figures of Infinity Trust Mortgage Bank. Need to check my files first, I want to compare and do some calculations. BRB

In the last quarter of 2024, Transcorp reconstructed their shares by dividing the shares by four. The technicalities involved in this I cannot explain as i am not an economist. But if your shares was 1m before, it will come down to 250,000. So by your analysis, the 313.5k shares had come down to 78.25k. by the time you multiply that by the current share price of N43, you will get N3.37m, not N13.4m,

What price did you buy it?

If you buy it at a lower price, you are still in profit even if it falls

but of you buy at the top, obviously, you will be at loss if price falls

shares are not meant to hold for long, you buy at the low and sell at high for profit, repeat the process, that is how people make money.. you also have to calculate fees too

At the beginning of 2025, Transcorp rebased their shares by dividing the shares by four. The technicalities involved in this I cannot explain as i am not an economist. rebasement does not mean you lose the price value

Before rebase:
if i had 313,500 shares at, say, ₦10.75 = ₦3.37M

After rebase (÷4):
now i will have 78,375 shares at ₦43 = ₦3.37M

Devalued against the dollar. Dollar was 300 plus, now it is 1600 plus. Besides, more people lost money in the stock market. This is like talking only about people who won lottery but not people who lost

A very funny thread. Just look at how they are promoting the Nigerian stock market. I'll rather go into futures or forex trading using higher investment technique. Will rather put the money in bitcoin and hold for minimum of 1 year. Imagine promoting stocks like this. It's good to be financially educated. Chai!

If you'd invested 1 million the same year in BTC, at $30k, BTC is now $110k.
