This morning, I stopped by AP Filling Station in Maitama, opposite Transcorp, to fuel my car. To my surprise, I noticed the fuel attendants murmuring, so I decided to engage one of them since there weren’t many cars around. I asked what was going on, and the lady told me they had just protested to the management for a salary increase, but their request was rejected.

I gently asked how much they earn monthly, and to my shock, she said they’re paid ₦10,000 per month. I asked if she meant ₦100,000, but she insisted it was ₦10,000. She even called one of her colleagues, and when I asked her, she confirmed it.

Where is the Nigerian Labour Congress when you need them? This is exactly the kind of issue people likes of @YeleSowore, @adeyanjudeji etc should be fighting for, instead of focusing solely on the presidency. Nigerians aren’t even fair to each other.

How do they expect these workers to transport themselves, feed their families, and not be tempted to steal from customers? A big station like Androva Petroleum shouldn’t be paying staff such a disgracefully low salary.

I hope they act fast. I feel genuinely sad for them and pray they get justice as soon as possible.

I once date a girl (pump attendant). She told me, her salary was 8k. But the money she get daily if she goes to work sures the 8k she's being paid. Although, that was around 2013. I doubt if such will still happen now.

She said, some of these customers do dash them money. While some of the money is 2ru fraud.

I had one that told me he doesn't depend on his salary one time.

I heard petrol attendant doesn't really earn much monthly but most of them see more than there monthly salary in a week... Most of the petrol station attendant here at ikeja are matured men and women... Especially that TOTAL petrol station beside Sheraton hotel...

The lady wanted to be pitied and given funds she didn't expect the man to escalate the issue. It's not possible they are paind 10k even teaching in a village private school pays more . So this one just de like bone way choke the girl for neck.

As much as this may sound so untrue, a lot of people are grossly underpaid in this country.

1. They configure their machines. If you buy 5000 fuel. They will pour 3.5 fuel inside car then pocket the 1.5
They it as 3500 fuel sold
Their managers also collect their own cut from daily amount made. It's a mess
Now imagine her making 1500 naira multiplied by over 20 car owners that come to buy fuel in a day.

2. She does hookup and her fuel attendant job give her more opportunities to meet yahoo boys that come with benz to fuel stations plus married men looking for flings.
This girl always dress nice with makeup to attract her hookup customers.

Her fuel attendant salary might is 25k but she makes double of that in a day from cheating motorist. There you go

yes, while the actual monthly cheque may not be farfetched from that figure, but don't believe them they earn way more than that.

They operate like politicians, their tchua-tchua and side hussles or allowances is 20times more than that actual 10k figure

Unless they work shifts, I don't believe that salary figure.
Pump attendants work morning to night and literally observe no holidays.
I can't imagine someone slaving that way for just N10k per month.

Even though most Nigerian employers of labour do not understand the balance between good salary structure and increased productivity and cash or assets security.

Hmmm, No wonder dey find other ‘illegal’ means to augment their salary like payment for gallons/kegs, distorting the metre Reading, reducing the measurement litre in the dispenser etc.


The problem really starts with the management. 10k isn’t up to the minimum wage for crying out loud. We are truly our own problems in this country.

NLC is not God that sees everything. If you are earning less, report to them and they will take action.

From all the millions fuel stations are making they choose to pay their labour work 10k what in the heck is this.

Corrupt people that make more than the N10,000 every day before. They were not complaining then but now that petro station business is not booming after fuel subsidy removal they are crying.

How can you accept to be paid N10,000 if there is nothing behind it.
