The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area
Command, has seized ₦8.9 million worth of
foreign coins and six canisters suspected to be
explosives in Lagos.
Area Controller, Dr Ben Oramalugo, said the coins
were found in abandoned bags after a smuggler
fled on a motorcycle at Owode. Items recovered
included various foreign currencies like pounds,
Canadian cents, and dollars—all prohibited under
Nigerian law.

He also confirmed the arrest of one suspect after
officers intercepted a vehicle along Badagry-
Lagos road carrying six canisters of mercury,
believed to be improvised explosive devices
(IEDs), hidden beneath cartons of the Holy
Qur’an.
Other recent seizures included cannabis, foreign
rice, petrol, second-hand clothes, uned
drugs, and vehicles. The total duty-paid value of
all intercepted goods in the period stood at
₦669.8 million.
In April alone, the command also recorded ₦847
million in revenue and facilitated non-oil exports
worth ₦16.9 billion.
