Police in Abia State have rescued 12 children and arrested a couple suspected of operating an illegal orphanage involved in child trafficking, ABN TV reports.

On May 19, 2025, at approximately 11:45 a.m., detectives from the Abia State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended Blessing Emebo (49) and Sunday Emebo (42) at their apartment on Ikot Ekpene Road in Aba. The suspects were found to be running an uned motherless babies’ home and were in possession of 12 children ranging in age from two months to 14 years.

The rescued children, hailing from various villages in Arochukwu, include:

Godwin Emmanuel (10)

Osinachi Nkemakolam (6)

The children have since been handed over to the custody of the Ministry of Women Affairs, while investigations into the illegal operation are ongoing. The suspects are currently under interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Umuahia and are expected to be formally arraigned once the investigation concludes.

Police officials reiterated their commitment to combating crime and urged the public to maintain vigilance regarding the safety of children.

Why would someone engage in this devilish act and called it business. Trafficking human beings for monetary benefits. Why are some people wicked like this? What's even the usefulness of national assembly if they cannot make law that will protect the lives and properties of the masses. This is too bad.
