Foolish man. He should go and Coach the English Team. Nigeria was practically begging this guy to play for the Country in the '80s, he refused

Get your facts right.

He came to train with the Green Eagles.

He wasn't picked because his playing style didn't jell with the rest of the team.

He came for the Green Eagles before the Three Lions came calling.

The excuse was, he didn't speak any of the Nigerian languages and didn't fit with the team.

However, he alleges that the then coach was extorting players and he refused to pay up, kinda like what happened to Mbappe in Cameroon.

Have you heard of player/coach before?

And what happened to player coaches? My friend get off the internet. Suggesting that the Super Eagles job is a suitable position for a first time coach shows that you're not thinking. Go and sleep first.

Lets be real; He was not born here. He grew up there, studied there, made friends and had relatives there. Yes, he didn't play for Nigeria, but John has made great efforts over the years to make up for that in so many ways. He made the decision to play for England at a very young agae, not sure he was even close to Nigeria at that point. Blame the father if not.. As he got older, he has always been "home"..
I think we shouldn't hold that against him. Most of us will do the same if we were in his shoes..

Are you in any way related to the great Richard Owobokiri?

There used to be quite a few coach/players.

Gianluca Vialli was one.
Ruud Gullit was also a coach/player.
I think even Pep Guardiola was a coach/player for a while, but I'm not so sure.

If you make John Fashanu Nigeria's coach you might as well make Kemi Badenoch the next president.

They never held their Naija card unapologetically, now that they are all used up and not wanted by England, they Naija.

Not really, but I actually took my moniker from his name..
Great player, Richard Owobokiri.
Overshadowed by the "gangling" Rashidi Yekini..

It has always been written as "Owobokiri" all these years. This is my first time of seeing this version..
But I'm now conversant with the meaning. I mean the "wayward look out for kpekus" definition. Learnt that here from Ishilove. Can't help but love the name more and more. It fits gloriously.

My guy, rest abeg. Suggesting that a person who has never coached and who has been out of the game for 30 odd years should walk into the Super Eagles job will probably be the lousiest idea you'll have this year. At least, I hope you have much better ones for your own sake.

So this guy is still in Nigeria, I thought he had run back to the UK

Vincent Kompany just won the German bundesliga..
He basically jumped into coaching from Man city! Should we write him off too? Ditto Alonso before him..
Players who played for decades and are reasonably versed in the technicalities of the game can coach well. Look at Fabregas at Como..

Kompany coached at least 2 clubs ( Burnley included) before he got the Bayern job.

He just did not jump from City.

So the SE's job has now become a thing of wish and want that even beggars can now ride white horses. Nawaooo.

Me too I want to be Governor of central

If there's anything I believe from his explanation for not playing for Nigeria is the height of bribery in our FA. So alarming! Even foreign coaches cry about this evil monster called bribery and corruption in the glasshouse. So pathetic.

They'll soon sack him. You think winning bundesliga is biggest achievement to bayern,. Any average expirienced coach can win it with that team.

So forget this man jare.

He should start by coaching Ikorodu United or odogunyan stars to prove he can coach

Nigeria never begged him that is a lie without evidence

How old are you? Name the coach that begged him.
I am old Enough to FATHER TIKO so tell us which coach begged him??
I am old enough to when or Team was called Green Eagles NOT Super Eagles so you cannot bullshit me

You just make up ridiculous stories to catch clout.

Many kids imagine the world in the 80s looked like it does now.

It did not

The premiership was not born , we were not watching English football and the ordinary person in Nigeria did not know him

I they brought Two Nigerians from the English First Division as it used to be called then John Chiedozie and another guy and they were not successful

John Fashanu was at his Prime at the same time as Rashidi Yekini
Why would we beg him when we had Yekini
In 1994 We had our best team ever and were ranked Number 6 by FIFA. We did not need him.
We brought in Efan Ekoku from England and he was always on the Bench

Can you reap where you didn't sow? Joker grin. The decision to jettison the call to play for nigeria at the time we needed you the most, but chose to play for England instead which later backfired will hunt you for life.

This is why im always happy for lukmon and co, who showed loyalty to their country and shoned their countries of birth's call.

Anyway, in Tinubu's wuruwuru government where merit is a taboo, anything can happen.

Tramsition is simply the way to describe the case of Fabregas and Kompany you described.

When was the last time Fashanu got involved with anything to do with football?

Can you imagine someone like David Beckham saying he wants to coach a team now?
oyeb15: 6:05am On May 05
He said d coach requested he pays him 100,000 dollars to play for Nigeria.

Nigeria is found on corruption. The corruption capital of the world
