Good morning nairalanders.

my new baby is being affected by jaundice, and all home remedies i've tried didn't work.

i've gone to the hospital to see a doctor, he said i should be placing him under the early morning sun for about 15 minutes daily, but it's not working either.

please i need help on how to cure and get rid of it so my baby can feel better.

whatever suggestion you give will be useful and will go along way, thanks.

If your child has jaundice,that child should be properly taken care of.
You should run a blood test to check the bilirubin level.Your child also might need phototherapy.
Jaundice is not something to joke with in a new born baby.It could damage the brain and give the child cerebral palsy.

Home remedies for Jaundice, in this time and age?

Better rush your newborn to a good hospital to avoid irreversible damage to the brain.

Go to the hospital dear.

Sunlight helps too as it breaks down the excess bilirubin that’s causing the yellowing but I’m not sure how much is too much and the baby is too tender to risk sunburn. If I tell you to leave the baby under sunlight, it might end up very sun burned due to over heating.

So a controlled temperature under the bili light in your hospital should do the trick.

However….……if you absolutely cannot afford to go to a hospital, try 30 mins to 1 hour during the early morning sun when it’s not too hot. And please make sure there’s someone supervising the baby AT ALL TIMES!!!!

Keep it hydrated too. Breast milk or formula. No water. Thanks and good luck

Well that’s the only approved home remedy as far as I know.
If it’s not working, you might need to go back and have them do it under controlled bili light.
Or the doc can refer you to another facility that has more options like IV therapy

if they have good appetite, feed as much as possible.

supplement with formula if mom is not producing so much milk. It gives their little livers the necessary energy to break down the bilirubin. That little champ is working hard. so, needs extra boost.

Trust me every reasonable American even the nonsense republicans would love affordable healthcare.

Only problem is liberals want affordable healthcare for all but republicans want it only for white people. So they consistently vote for candidates who they know will suppress accessible care for all especially marginalized communities.

I was in ile-ife when my uncle's wife gave birth. When we got home, we realized he has jaundice. The solutions which grandma recommended, although she was a nurse but she used a combination of some home made solutions
1. You allow your baby get a glimpse of the morning sun, that one around 8 to 10am filled with VIT D, not the crazy sunrays in the afternoon oo
2. You get unripe papaya, you wash it well, you slice it with the bark, endocarp and seeds in it, and soak in water. The baby takes a teaspoon morning and night and the mom take a quarter cup of it daily.
3. To clear the yellow eyes, the mom would occasionally sprinkle her breast milk into his eyes.

I know these maybe dumb, but it was something I witnessed and it worked.
Please trying it is at your own risk and insult. But it works.

If your baby is still within two weeks of birth, early morning sun and late evening sun will work

But If above a month pls take your baby to general hospital where you can have access to see pediatricians

Your baby needs very urgent medical attention. If at three weeks, jaundice is not decreasing in percentage, it's a critical matter. Forget home remedies at this point. Look for money anyhow and anyway you can to treat your baby in the hospital if money is the constraint. There's a likelihood he will need blood transfusion and intense phototherapic procedure. I beg you, don't jeopardize your child's life and live with eternal regret. He will need lots of breastfeeding also. Take this from a father whose 3 children had jaundice at birth.

Take your baby to specialist yoruba herb sellers (Elewe-omo/Alagbo) They'll prescribe some herbs that's going to it
