General Yakubu "Jack" Dan-Yumma Gowon (born 19 October 1934) is the former head of state (Head of the Federal Military Government) of Nigeria from 1966 to 1975. He took power after one military coup d'état and was overthrown in another. The man that unwisely decided to stay put and rule Nigeria from a Military barracks instead of conducting elections and speeding up Nigeria's healing, giving the Military the injurious notion that they can perpetually rule Nigeria. olowobaba10: I doubt that most people who suffered the war would think that way. Jack did nothing much during the September/October pogroms, and by his inactivity probably helped speed up the start of the war. Of course, the blame for the whole civil war goes to Nigeria's tendency to view government as a goodie sharing place. 5 Likes |
