Tragedy struck last Friday afternoon in an Abuja community after a young man, identified as Garba, allegedly stabbed his elder brother’s wife to death after accusing her of witchcraft.
The incident happened at Wuye-Wuye village in Paikon-Kore ward of Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory.
A resident of the community, who spoke with our reporter on condition of anonymity, said the incident happened around 2:12 p.m. when the man trailed the deceased to the farm and allegedly attacked her with cutlass.
He said the man had accused the deceased of practicing witchcraft, which resulted in the death of one of his younger brother in a motor accident while travelling to the Eastern part of the country.
“It was after one of the man’s younger brothers died in a motor accident that he said he had a dream that it was his elder brother’s wife that was responsible for the accident. And the next day, he trailed the women to the farm and attacked her with cutlass, which resulted to her death,’’ he said.
According to him, the suspect amputated the two hands of the deceased before stabbing her on the head, adding that a farmer, who saw them, ran to the village to inform the people, who went to remove her body to the community.
He said the man had also accused the deceased of creating misunderstanding and bringing bad luck to their family.
“What amazed most of the villagers was that he even came out openly to accuse his elder brother’s wife that he had a dream that she was a witch and she was responsible for the accident that led to the death of his younger brother,’’ the villager added.
Our reporter learnt that the alleged killing of the woman created tension between the families but that the Agora of Zuba, Alhaji Mohammed Bello, who immediately got wind of incident, summoned all village/district heads in his chiefdom to address the matter.
The remains of the deceased, City News gathered, was buried last Saturday, while the suspect had been handed over to the police at Gwagwalada Area Command office.
When ed, the Gwagwalada police area commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (A) Olufemi Abinwanja, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect has been arrested and taken to the state Criminal Investigation Department and that investigation on the matter is on-going.
