Can Nigerians Afford Pay-Per-View TV? (13464 Views)

Wait, I am now reconsidering my decision. We are way too broke to afford this option we are pushing for. Nigeria is hard enough, I need less things to bother about Biko.

There is a fundamental misunderstanding of what PPV means and largely, it is the assumption that it frees a pay television subscriber from conventional subscription. It does not. And it requires you to pay a king's ransom to watch a broadcast only once. It is exclusively for live events . Can Nigerians afford it? No broadcaster will bring PPV to Africa, let alone Nigeria where the cost of electricity is making people mad. Among those agitating for PPV are those who want to be taken off Band A. We need to get serious

PPV sounds good in theory, but in reality, it means paying prices for every event, imagine spending ₦10,000 to ₦30,000 just to watch one match, when your regular DStv subscription already gives you access to that and more for way less

We are wishing for pay per second you are talking of pay per view. Funny

I don't think PPV is a good idea, monthly subscription is a way to go.
netzro(m): 1:30pm On Apr 29
Ok na let me explain our OWN pay-per-view

When MTN came out, you then subscribed to get the line and you subscribed for the call credit, if your line is inactuve for a while, MTN will disconnect you and sell the line to someone else, if you load N1500 and you did not use it within a specified period, o ti lo, they will empty it for you..

Fastforward, now the cost of MTN line is FREE, when you load N100 recharge card depending on usage it can last for 6 months or more

DSTV subscription is whether you watch it or not once month ends it stops, now this is what our pay-per-view should be: I pay N14500 for a service, it should keep on running as long as i did not put on DSTV to watch Telemodo but start counting once I start watching Man Utd vs Chelsea that ended 3-1.

This is what I want, shikina

In markets where PPV is the norm, people expect to spend on each individual event. In Nigeria, we’re used to one flat fee. Don’t swap that for a new pricing system that makes you pay more for less.

Be careful what you wish for. If PPV was introduced, a full season of football might cost more than your rent! Better appreciate what we’re getting now.

Leave them; let them be shouting 'pay per view. Ignorant mofos. embarassed cool

Some years back, I pushed a question relating to this to a senior staff of dstv in one event at Landmark,

his face expression and his response made it easy for me to draw my conclusion regarding this very topic.
What was your conclusion

Thanks for this.

I have been screaming from the rooftops about this.

Wow...highly enlightening. We should just stick to our Dstv bouquets. Dstv must be given qudos then... they have been in this business for a while. I applying for a freeze in December 2023 and it was done and restored as instructed. I was routing for pay per view too...bit now I know better...especially if you have a family with kids

"Pay-per-view" (PPV) and "pay-as-you-view" are often used interchangeably, but there's a subtle difference:

- *Pay-per-view (PPV)*: This model typically involves paying a fixed fee for a specific event or content, such as a sports match or concert. You pay once for access to the content, usually for a limited time.

- *Pay-as-you-view*: This phrase isn't as commonly used, but it could imply a more flexible, metered approach to paying for content. You might pay based on the amount of time you spend watching or the specific content you access.

Nigerians are asking for pay as you view.

Only old people still subscribe to DSTV. I sold my dish the moment I installed fiber optics network in my home. More and more people are doing the same everyday.

With my tight schedule and constant light issues, I’d rather pay for PPV than waste money on a monthly subscription I barely get to use.
Can u afford it? 80k per session

Like they sent you to come seek out mind it we no go complain of they put the PPG price high. Just like they knew we Nigerians are very adaptive to any situation we find ourselves.

Thank you sir... that was exactly my thought.
This person is clearly sampling opinions for a .
His campaign, and praise for the present price regime is most unreasonable..
Like some say, Nigerians love their slave masters and task drivers...
You may recall this was how they campaign against pay per second until Glo broke their monopoly..
There is no way pay per view can be more expensive than what we have now.

Nonsense analysis, my "I my neighbour" gen won't exhaust a litre of fuel to watch a match, I don't know how you arrive at 10,000 naira fuel as if everyone is using mikano generators. Even on NEPA band A @ 250 per unit, I can't finish 4 units when it's not that it's compulsory to put on my AC to watch football on TV. Even with my AC on, I won't still finish 1,000 naira worth of token. And how will I finish data of 5,000 naira on live streaming, if you want to exaggerate, please do it with moderation

Well, DSTv is one of Nigerians' favourite things to demonise, so let them carry on. PPV is a good idea though.
